SimpleQuest! posted by Kildorf on 2017-09-17 23:46:03

This is really VERGE-adjacent, rather than strictly about VERGE. Sorry!

I've actually finished a game! No, sadly, not THAT game, but A game. It's called SimpleQuest, and it's an RPG I probably should have built a long, long time ago.

speveril.itch.io/simplequest

The game's got one playable character, one town, an overworld, and three dungeons. More importantly, it's got pretty much everything you'd expect from a simple Dragon Quest-style game: items, battles, levelling up, etc etc, but not much else. The game isn't very long, and it's as straightforward as possible.

If anyone out there is still working with Verge, I highly recommend doing the same sort of thing! Figure out what the absolute minimum you need for a game you'd like to make, and focus on just that. When you're done, you'll have a better understanding of the process, you'll have a bunch of code you've tinkered with enough to get working, and you'll have something to show off. THEN you can look at the next project. :)

Server Troubles? posted by M_Dragon on 2017-08-18 17:46:24
Hi all, was there an issue with the server recently; I had tried to visit the site but it kept returning a cannot connect error, every day for almost a week. It may have been my sucky Internet, but I was just curious about the event.

I hope everyone is doing well.

Blast From the Past: 2000-2002 Game Compos rediscovered! posted by mcgrue on 2013-05-11 16:00:37
While searching through ancient archived drives for old sully work, I stumbled across the old HoV site run by Choris. I've uploaded it to http://verge-rpg.com/hov/contests.html for posterity.

Have a look! It's super old!

Finished game: Taken for a Pool posted by Keast on 2013-03-30 22:27:37
I'm done! My first entry for Ludum Dare! Mini-LD 41 though.

You play as a detective trying to solve a murder case. Not really Adventure, not RPG at all. But I had fun making it and you may enjoy it as well. Took me about a week.

The LD page itself is here:

Sully: A Very Serious RPG! posted by mcgrue on 2013-01-14 09:26:09

So, although not about VERGE, this is VERGE-Related!

I'm proud to announce Breadbrothers Games next title, Sully: A Very Serious RPG!

This title is a re-imagining of The Sully Chronicles (VERGE's own demo game since 1997), and will be coming out in the Summer of 2013 for PC, Mac, Linux, and Playstation Mobile (including the Vita).

Many of the Ancient Vergers of Old are involved with this project, and we're using a custom engine written in C# (based largely on the efforts of Zeromus and Gayo) that runs VERGE 3 assets in XNA/Monogame. After the release I plan on open sourcing the engine itself, but this isn't a priority for now.

For now... there's a game to finish!

Follow @bengrue on twitter, or follow the Breadbros Games blog for updates!

( BTW, am I allowed to post it here?
The file's less than 4 mb, but verge-rpg website wouldn't
allow the upload due to the "big" file size)

Probably something like an adventure game. Great storytelling. Compelling arts. Outrageous overstatements. Try it!

Ben McGraw's lovingly crafted this website from scratch for years.
It's a lot prettier this go around because of Jon Wofford.
