This is one of the most beautiful indy games I've seen. It won the grand prize at the latest IGF(I'm glad a 2D game got this honor!), and it looks like it's nearing completion. It basically looks like Metroid underwater.

The artist behind the game is none other than the highly talented Derek Yu, and I've played some of his games in the past like Eternal Daughter.

Anyway, check out their page, and trailer. It just blew me away.

Overkill

I've been observing this game for a while, ever since I saw the link on Derek Yu's website. I plan on purchasing this game when it comes out, because it looks amazing. From what I read apparently it's mostly mouse-driven controls, which is sort of nifty. Allegedly, it's made by a two-person team, but they HAD to have a bit of third-person help, pun not intended, and I mean besides the obvious voice acting assistance. If the scale of their team is THAT small, then there's still hope for the rest of us.

Underwater metroidvania, hell yeah. It should be pretty awesome.

Kildorf

I've had my eye on this as well for a while. I wish they would release a demo already. :(

But then, I'm not one to talk there. :D

I'm pretty sure that besides the music and the voice acting, this was mostly a 2-person team. It's my understanding that Alec did all the coding while Derek did all the art...unless they had a mysterious 3rd person help with some of this :D But obviously they are a very talented and dedicated duo, and they do give us all hope for the success of 2D indy game development.

I will definitely be buying this when it comes out too.

Beni

Tomorrow's the day, in case anybody hasn't been following. I first heard about this game from this thread, and since then I've gotten really excited about it. Thanks rpgking.

Omni

This is beautiful, and is exactly the kind of game, actually, that I always wanted to make with Verge, even though I never managed to:

That is, a game that does for 2D sidescrollers what NiGHTS did in 3D. A complete free sense of movement, in a 2D sidescroller, along with acrobatics and an illusion of flight. The idea of putting the game underwater to do so is genius. I really like the trailers.

Overkill

Downloaded the demo the day after the release, when the site was down with either the flood of traffic or with denial of service attacks. The mouse-driven controls are very enjoyable, although somewhat odd initially when eventually you have to left and right click simultaneously to move and shoot. The graphics and audio are both very well done, with lots of varied environments to explore.

I was surprised at how long the demo for this game is. Even still, it was somewhat unexpected when the demo just ended midlevel, instead of ending after some sort of significant story event. ._.

At any rate, I plan on buying this eventually, but that might be a ways off. It looks well worth playing the full version.

Ben McGraw's lovingly crafted this website from scratch for years.
It's a lot prettier this go around because of Jon Wofford.
