Tastes like crap. It's like choking on pepper.

English breakfast tea is MUCH better, Alex.

You have to have the right kind of Earl Grey... there are many imitatations of the Twinings brand original, none of which are as good. Plus, it needs milk and sugar, and no bloody lemon juice crap.

I've tried all sorts of teas. I've given them a fair chance.

Coffee is definitly my poison. Tea's too subtle for my brute palette, I guess.

Also, I like Guinness because it has a coffee-like aftertaste to me!

Guinness is rubbish. I like to drink my pint, not chew it.

Personally, I drink Darjeeling tea and also love the smooth taste of Guiness. Darjeeling is subtle but rewardingly distinctive in flavour.

I strongly prefer coffee. Double lattes, to be precise, and have an espesso machine at home that I use more often than the telephone. No syrups or sugar. In fact I used to buy coffee at Starbucks in Pike Place Market when there was only one Starbucks on the entire planet.

Having said that, I also enjoy Earl Grey Tea, like Alex, with a little sugar and a spot of milk, no lemon.

Well, I shall have to try that EG+Milk+Sugar thing.

And while it may increase my respect for it, I doubt it will displace my favorite beverage of all time: sweet iced tea.

You, my friend, are the one who is rubbish for making such a comment.

One interesting property of Earl Grey is that if you leave a cup of it for a few days it starts to congeal and smell bad... which "normal" tea doesn't do. Er... well, I found it interesting. It does take a lot of getting used to though, I don't think I liked it at first either. But lemon is a bad idea, as it's flavoured with bergamot anyway, which is also a citrus fruit, and lemon pretty much overpowers it.

McGrue, tea doesn't have to be subtle. I once had one cup made with five teabags (PG, which is pretty strong anyway), It was certainly an experience, and not altogether unpleasant. Yes, that is the kind of thing I do when I'm bored.

You know, I tried mixing up my own sweet tea the other day.

While it was still hot, I decided, hey, let's add some spice to this thing.

So I did. Cinnamon.

It was cool for the first five seconds. After that the cinnamon overpowered the tea, I wanted to throw up, and I couldn't get it to wash out of the cup. There was cinnamon goo at the bottom of the glass.

Oh well. The spice giveth and the spice taketh away.

Eheh. That's one of the two ways I drink my tea. Overclocking your cup.

The other way I make it is by cutting open 12 teabags into a coffee filter. However, drinking that much tea usually cramps my stomache... while drinking twice that much coffee leaves my stomache fine. Also it makes me vibrate, but that's the intended purpose.

Also, I like beers of all races; Stouts, lagers, ales... all are welcome in my loving arms, especially if you're buying.

This is not to say I love all beers. I can drink with glee very few of the commonly available beers in supermarkets. God bless Yuengling, though.

Has anyone had Read Tea? I enjoyed a cup today. Its quite excellent.

I tasted instant freeze dried tea today...

Not good. So I have a question for you coffee connoisseurs: is there a comparable difference between instant coffee and "real" coffee? I don't think I've ever had "real", so I wouldn't know... And if there is a difference, why hasn't anybody invented the coffee bag?

1) It's pretty easy to fuck up instant.
2) I haven't had much, but Instant always seems more acidic to me.
3) Freshly brewed always seems better to me, but that may just be subliminal propaganda enforced by Folgers Commercials.
4) Coffee Bags exist.
4a) Dr. Intarweb knows all.
5) Grue likes enumerating things.
6) There is no six.

Coffee bags have been around since the 70's then. So they must be pretty rubbish, otherwise the general populace would know of their existence, and it would be possible to buy them without having to search Dr. Intarweb...

Think I'll stick to the instant coffee and the Earl Grey (though I may try Darjeeling, and possibly Read unless that's something Troupe made up).

Is there a difference? Boy howdy there is. Good coffee, where you grind the beans moments before brewing, measure carefully, bring the water to just before boiling, moistent the grounds and let sit for a minute, then pour the water on little by little, served immediately never having sat on a burner or warmer is akin to good sex. Instant coffee is like someone gave you the condom afterwards.

If I ever meet you in real life, I'm going to buy a case of Guinness, pour it in my tub, invite you over with the tempting pussyness of a bud light, and drown you in the Guinness. Then we'll see!!

Red tea is quite yummy. Its real name is rooibos, and it's African, if I recall correctly.

I'm a huge fan of Monk's Blend tea, which if flavoured with something mysterious; everything I've read says it's either grenadine and vanilla, or berry and hibiscus, or jasmine, bergamot, and rosehip. I have no idea what the stuff I get is flavoured with, but it's damn good. I've never seen it in tea bags though, so I use pretentious loose tea.

I know too much about tea. I have a large box of assorted types of tea in the cupord that takes up about a quarter of the space we coulduse for food.

Omni, how do you make sweet iced tea? I try, and I try, but I tend to get horribly weak, slightly cool tea, not sweet iced tea. T_T
