Is awesome and you should read it. The ending was like, "Whoa man! I didn't see that coming! ...But it feels strangely like I've read that somewhere..."
Orson Scott Card wrote himself a decent novel, and even if you can pick out one or two circa-1970s sci-fi cliches, the story and the underlying theme established at the end is a good one.

Temptingly worth a read, I suppose. I looked this up on Amazon and most of the reviews are fairly positive.
The last review I read - by some guy calling themself "audiobookfan" was hilarious: they hated it and generally slated it for promoting hate while also getting a dig in at computer games for the same reason. You can't help but feel someone has missed the point entirely without even having to read the book he's criticising. And as for trying the old "computer games are evil" trick again: don't make me laugh. That is the stupidest, most mis-informed agument that's been raging on since the dawn of time.
Anyway..

Yeah...as for the promoting hate thing...the last chapter of the book is so contrary to that argument.
And it's not about the computer games being evil. It's about the children who are forced to play the games. And they're not even computer games. Well, at first. Aw, heck, go read the book, it only takes about 8 hours if you're really interested in it.

Oh god, Amazon reviewers. (Just a short rant this time) Why do Amazon let people "review" things that haven't been released yet? You get things like Halo 2 with 100 reviews a year before anyone's even played the damn thing. And they ALL give it five stars, claiming it to be the pinnacle of all humanity's achievements. Would it be impossible to disallow reviewing until the item in question is actually released? To answer my own question, no.

I actually read the reviews and - as you may guess - ignore the outright stupid ones. "So you think it's going to be great? Well can we reserve judgement until it's out? Yes, we can. Shut up. Thank you." That sort of thing.

zeromus isn't here, he's like gone forever now or something, but I know he'd post so I'll post for him.
If you liked Enders Game, you NEED to read the next 3 books in the series:
1) Ender's Game
2) Speaker for the Dead
3) Xenocide
4) Children of the Mind
The latter 3 taking place with Ender as an adult. When you finish enders game, you should have an idea what the title 'Speaker for the Dead' is about.
They're all sci-fi classics.

Although!
Ender's Game is a very very different book from the rest. They are good, but very different in flow and structure.
Also, the last two books are more like one big superbook that got split in two.
There are also more books in the Enderverse, but after reflecting upon them for a while, really, you wouldn't suffer for missing them.

Something to avoid until you've read the rest.

Yes, but Ender's Game is to the Hobbit as Speaker for the Dead, Xenocide, and Children of the Mind are to the Lord of the Rings trilogy. It's all next level shit, and also awesome.

Xenocide is a Latin/Greek barbarism! Clearly Card must die for the good of mankind.

What zeromus has specifically told me is that while Ender's Game is awesome, Speaker for the Dead is like the single most brilliantly written book there is or something. I've only read Ender so far, but I've got the rest of the series in the mail right now.

I do not dispute the awesomeness at all!
In fact, Card's depiction of aliens is awesome and one of the most entertaining ever.
