There are only four words in the English language which end in "- dous": tremendous, horrendous, stupendous, and hazardous.

Four more: gastropodous, tetrapodous, tylopodous, vanadous.

Shakespeare invented the word "assassination" and "bump."

He didn't invent bump, he was just the first to use it as a noun. But he did also invent the words "downstairs" and "puke". And also (here's the Verge connection) "sully". :)

In England, the Speaker of the House is not allowed to speak.

Actually he is. He decides who's going to speak next, and verbally announces this. He's just not allowed to say anything interesting. A bit like me in fact. :)

and

* TYPEWRITER, is the longest word that can be made using the letters on only one row of the keyboard.

Are only true if you're using a QWERTY keyboard.

* On average, people fear spiders more than they do death.

I'm also much more afraid of bees and stinging insects than spiders. I love spiders. ^^

Thrasher

A lot of those are simply untrue or unprovable.

Hunt around. The 8 spiders thing is a good example.

Just informing that I have not personally researched these "good to know" things. I'm not going to fully claim that they are all true.

So much for the fun then?
Everyone knows that the average human consumes 10 spiders, not 8.

I'd just like to take this opportunity to state that Alexandir is one smart bastard. I don't know whether to damn him or fear him.

Alex

Either suits me. :D Also:

The Churchill thing is also wrong. It's a strangely popular misconception. He was actually born in a "downstairs" (word courtesy of W. Shakespeare) "bedroom" (another contribution of Mr S believe it or not). And not in the karsi at all. I mean... if you had a massive stately home in the country, which room would you choose?

And TEN spiders in a lifetime? That's nothing. I'm having spiders fricassee right now.

* All of the clocks in the movie Pulp Fiction are stuck on 4:20.

OH MY GOD.... That's my birthday... (The date, not the time...)

* If you yelled for 8 years, 7 months and 6 days, you would have produced enough sound energy to heat one cup of coffee.

* If you fart consistently for 6 years and 9 months, enough gas is produced to create the energy of an atomic bomb.

Fuck, I obviously miscalculated those, so I'm going to have to keep this up for another 3 years...

And yes, Alexandir is a genius. I'm pretty sure we should damn him.

Isn't 4-20 National Smokeout Day? :D

That explains a lot of things.

I wish I was a genius, but I read a biography of Winston Churchill fairly recently, so that's how I knew. But feel free to damn me anyway, I mind not.

Isn't 4-20 National Smokeout Day? :D

April 20th is, and 4:20 AM and PM is national smoke-up time every day.

Trust me, if you going walking in the right part of town on April 20th, and are dressed properly (ie: improperly) and/or have long hair, people will yell happy holidays to you.
