There is a very good chance that verge-rpg.com is going to have google ads implemented into the design relatively soon. They should be pretty non-intrusive (if you've seen other sites with google ads, you'll know what I mean).
How does everyone feel about this? Does this piss anyone off greatly? Does it make you randy? Let me know!

I think it'd really depend on what the revenue went towards and how well they fit into the page. It is really nice to have an ad-free site, but I can also understand that this may not really be feasible. Any more information you can give us?
If there is a pressing need for ads, though, Google Ads are probably the best way to go.

Basically, the ads are being done to offset the price of running the server, which was originally just for verge-rpg.com, but now other sites as well. It's pretty much going to happen, for sure, unless McGrue or vecna or someone cares to try and move the site to a different host.

I can't complain since pr2 houses gigs upon gigs of my files. :(

Noooo! Not ads!!
Actually, I don't mind that much, particularly because they're Google ads. Although you have to admit that ad-less sites look a lot better than ones with ads.
So, did hosting prices just jump or is it actually because the extra maintenance that's required?
Maybe instead of ads, you could first try putting up a PayPal 'Donate' button. Someone out there has to be generous enough to help vrpg out.

You better get on that pretty quick if you really want to prevent ads from showing up.....

It's the amount of overall traffic. The two biggest draws are verge-rpg.com and another site, and so those are the two that will get ads.

I have had private hosting for sites for over a year. I can set it up tonight, any administration errors nonwithstanding. I believe all you'll have to do is update the DNS.

Alrighty then... I guess we should check it out with vecna, and then get it started, if that's what you want to do.

An example of a site that owes much of its success to its ad-free environment.
Ads are ok with me if they don't pop-up, flash colors, tell you that your computer is jacked up, or create ANY sort of sound.
Still, some of the charm in this site will undoubtedly go away.

We're not going to be doing any ads. Verge-rpg.com is being moved to a new host. So no worries.
