I was visiting a Gamestop with one of my friends for his birthday, and I saw two copies of Persona: Eternal Punishment.

Well, I bought one, and when I opened it I was surprised and overjoyed to find it was actually Persona 1! The guys boxed it wrong!

..Which means I need to go back and officially buy Eternal Punishment, perhaps...

I've got Eternal Punishment, but never finished it. It's one of the hardest RPGs I've ever played... The first time through, I died on the first battle, because I tried fighting normally using just humans.

Hmm. Isn't it supposed to kind of be like FF8's junction system? I've read on a lot of fansites that some think FF8 stole junctioning from the Personas.

This will be the first RPG experience I've been excited about in a while...hope I do well.

Yup, one of the hardest I've played and the first could've been considered one too :) It's a lot easier if you collect enough cards and equip the right type of personas.. if you don't know which those are or lazy, you'll have a hard time or long battles. It's easy to switch persona though if you've got a few saved up, the starter ones are actually good for a long time too

I still hate "Old Maid" from EP (that's not a monster, you'll see what I mean)

About 3 hours into the game...I really need to get monster conversation down. It was much easier in Revelations GBC. I've got 2 cards, and I'm heading to the police station...this is cool.

This is one of those topics I'd never bother to write in, but since I'm bored at work... what the hell is Persona: Eternal Punishment, and why is the title so hideously bad?

Edit:
There is a torrent for it at SuprNova.org

Edit 2: I'm usally not a big friend of pirated software. But for good old (meaning not available as retail) RPGs I happily make a exception.

Could always buy it on ebay :)

Omni: If you get confused by stuff that seems to be relating to another story, there's a site called "Oracle of Maiya" with an english translation of the game before it. Search google or something - doesn't explain much though and it'll spoil you if you like not knowing (There's a lot more that it leaves unexplained though)

The version I have is actually the American version.

And I did hear there was a completely optional second plot branch (something about the Snow Queen's Mask) but that was taken out of the American version anyway, so I don't have to worry about that.

Although it would be interesting. I don't think I could do import un-translated RPGs, as I lack any sense of ..uh...foreign language.

Hey, Zaril, Persona 2: Eternal Punishment is the sequel to Persona 2: Innocent Sin in Japan.

Innocent Sin is the real sequel to the first Persona, but it was never released in the US (something about school shootings and Nazis). Eternal Punishment was released in both regions. It is not actually Persona 3, I think, but it is more "Persona 2 Part 2". It has a recap of Innocent Sin, as I think gamespot says, so you aren't completely in the dark.

And I should head back to Gamestop and get it sometime.
