So, here I am, codin' up a storm to overcome my general apathy of this last week, my parrot-cat on my shoulder, and my 'songs to obnoxiously sing along with' playlist on, and Oingo Boingo's Pain comes up.
Now, I'm not singing to it because it's not one of the Boingo songs I have memorized. And then it hits me: This sounds a lot like the song in FF8 that plays during the "Balamb Garden becomes an airship to avoid being nuked" sequence. Which is an underratted gem on that soundtrack, IMO.
Anyways, anyone else have any RPG melody soundalikes in other places?
(fyi for the pedants: the FF8 OST track in question is 3-03: movin')

Many Asian TV series rips off music from games, especially Squaresoft ones.. o_o..
For example, I heart Xenogears' "Black Moon Forest" (or something) in a popular Taiwanese serial, FF8's Vithos Lusec Wecos Vinosec chant was used in a vampire series.. and major news channels ripped FF5's Ahead on Our Way (the buildup to the trumpet fanfare onwards).

Well, FF8's main battle theme did start off with an action-news-like intro. One almost expected the sounds of typewriters to fade into the background.

Not exactly an RPG, but the intro music of Shadow of the Beast 2 is a shameless rip-off of Pink Floyd's Shine On You Crazy Diamond. Shameless, I tell you, shameless.
And the "Fiend's Path" music from Golden Axe is a direct steal from some 70's rock group whose name escapes me right now. Again, not an RPG. I fail this thread.

But... that music was Toccata and Fugue in D Minor! Wasn't it? :. At least klov.com says so. Or maybe I'm missing the point as usual. :D

I'm sorry Rysen... I still love you.

Grue already knew that it was actually Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, and wasn't being serious. As far as I can tell. Now send me $20, or I will stop making musics for you.

I know! He knew that, and (after googling) I knew that too ... so ... what? Actually, never mind. And I don't have a paypal account anyway. Or $20 for that matter.

Damn. Well, I will continue making musics for you regardless. But, er. You, uh, owe me $20. No no, 20 Pounds! Gahah, way to work the currency system!

OK, I'll give you £20 next time I see you. Hey, make it £50 if you like! On the subject of this thread, the Castle music that you wrote reminds me of the main theme from Elite III. That's a good thing btw.

Heh, not exactly a sound-alike, but an IS-ALIKE. The other day, I caught The Craft again on TV. There was this scene where they were in the witchcraft shop, and I heard music that I KNEW I had heard before. Then, later, I go to play my Diablo II... And the first song that plays while I'm waiting in the battle.net chat is THE SAME SONG. It's the EXACT same song, it's the one that plays when you are in the palace in act II, the one with the woman mumbling insanely in the background in faux arabic. But here's the odd thing: The Craft came out in 1997, 3-4 years before Diablo II hit the shelves. Go figure. Perhaps both Blizzard and the movie bought their music from the same place.

A winnar is me!? Awsum!
Yeah, the changes I used in that song are the ultimate castle changes, I think they are the same ones as the castle music in Shining Force. Or something.

According to our beloved and respectful C. M. Dratz, the Zelda theme is blatantly ripped off of an old 60 soul tune called Bernadette. He is wrong, of course, but that's ok.

He may be wrong, but his respect gives credence to his claim, no?

Dear Toen:
Your mockery of our compatriot and fellow board-member is insulting, excessive, and rude. Please withdraw your statements before you offend our beloved and respected C. M. Dratz.
Respectfully:
