What's translucency?

According to Dictionary.com:

trans·lu·cent
adj.
  1. Transmitting light but causing sufficient diffusion to prevent perception of distinct images.
  2. Clear; lucid.

Translucency ranges from 0% (opaque) to 100% (invisible). Any where in between will blend previous colors with overlapping colors. Can give the illusion of fading or see-through objects, depending on how it's used.
