I've messed around with mptracker a little, and have even written a song or two that aren't all that bad. It would be nice, however, to have something to go on, rather than trying to figure out how to write songs from scratch. It would be nice to have more information on how the effects work and what they do exactly- the help section in mptracker does not do a very good job of explaining this. It would also be nice to learn some tips and tricks that would facilitate the tracking of songs.

Troupe is. However, I honestly think that any tutorial written for this site should be specifically pertaining to verge. There are amazing tutorials out there on the interwebnet concerning making pixel art and learning tracking and the such already. I think it'd be a better use of our time if we referenced pre-existing useful tutorials and/or hosted local mirrors of them.

As we speak I have Falth helping me prepare a local version of the famous and oft-referenced pixeltutorial.cjb.net pixel art tutorial (permission is granted in it's FAQ).

I'm all for eagerness to work and all, it's just that over the years I've seen a lot of time wasted reinventing wheels. I would much rather time be spent making demos and games, and/or tutorials about the verge gamemaking process in specific... :)

I see your point, Grue. Though, most of the tracking tutorials I have come across have been seemingly insufficient. So Troupe: I'm looking forward to that being completed. If anyone knows of some good tracking tutorials please post links to them here.

Pixeltutorial.cjb.net IS indeed a very good pixel art tutorial I've read a good chunk of it and have found it very useful in map-making.

Re Grue-thingy: I suggested to Troupe that indexing a bunch of links to existing tracking tutorials would both save him time on the tutorial (by covering some specific things) but still be sufficently newbie friendly.
And you have yet to show me any OTHER good pixel art (or even game making tutorials) that we could link to to save doing work this end. certainly a local copy of THAT tutorial will be great, but it does have gaps that could be usefully filled. (All these tablet questions could do with being usefully archived for a start I think).
Re Troupé: YOU SHOULD

I think maybe I'll do one from scratch, with a links section at the end. Mainly becuase creft showed disappointment with the currently available tutorials. I will try to tailor it to VERGE more though.

Troupette: I think I agree with you here, I have yet to find any great mod tutorials, and I'm sure you could do a better job that what I have seen, if you put your mind to it. ;)

I've decided I may make one that's more of a guide to how to do things. I'll try to describe the uses for every effect, and detail a few techniques. What I had before was going to be far too much work to see through and I think most of you guys are smart enough to download Modplug on your own ;)

Wouldn't want to anger the tracking authorities then, I suppose.

I really will start working on that tracking tutorial zip, really.

Ben McGraw's lovingly crafted this website from scratch for years.
It's a lot prettier this go around because of Jon Wofford.
