I found out that it wasn't my tablet that was malfunctioning but the fucking USB port that died and couldn't sense my tablet input. :o Fuck.

So I drew some Midsummer art.. I think Alex is okay with me posting them since they're just sketches. I still can't get used to drawing lightly on the tablet.. ^_^;; Well. Anyways. I'm just whoring myself in this post.

And an Verge-UNRELATED art:

Hopefully I get a better grip of the tablet soon ^_^;; It feels cheap to whore my art here XD.. but oh well.

Very nice. Most people don't take to tablets that quickly. It's an art, so to speak.

Oh, I didn't. I think. I actually did other artwork with the tablet at HERE which I mentioned in the other thread ^_^;;

It took me some time to get used to it, the URL above contains artwork did within the week of getting the tablet. I think now I still need to grasp how to use colors.. I suck quite abit at that..

Please note that despite my name being on two of those lovely pics, they are not of me. It's a (rather narcissistic) stopgap name for the character in question and he's yet to be named properly. :P

Draft 1 looks incredibly familiar and I don't know why. It's like something I'd expect to see in the Lunar art designs. Good job!

Hey, nothing wrong with being the main character yourself, I suppose although if it's just the name and no other similarity I suppose it's wise to think about changing it. I'm a naturally occuring fountain of names: Marik, Andar, Fedywin, Melvic: right off the top of my head. Feel free to use those.

I'd love to be the main character in someone's RPG. Actually, the main character in an RPG actually being a real person might be an interesting avenue to explore, with the real person in question being called upon to write their own dialogue. The closest to this I remember ever happening was in MegaZeux, in a game called "A Death Beyond Imagination," where all the characters were MegaZeuxers and all the lines where their own, although they were told the circumstances in which to say them. It never got finished, but a VERGE alternative would be terrific:

"A somewhat worried and not entirely well equipped band of Vergers embark on the ultimate quest to defeat the (reasonably) mighty evil that is Tatsumi and his legions of raging lesbians and Elvis impersonators in a showdown to the death at Castle Heck."

Actually, it would look a bit like me if I soaked my hair in lard and then stood in a wind tunnel for ten minutes... I can't use your fabulous instantly-thought up names though because they're too long. 4 letters please. :(

Yes indeed:

The style is kind of like Lunar, but leaner

Four letters?! That sounds like some terminally inflexible code you have there. Hmm... Give me a minute to think some up...

How about: Marn, Bren, Kith, Dent or Ghend? Dent is - of course - a word, but it has something of a charm to it that makes it feel like a name in it's own right, Arthur Dent nonwithstanding.

I so called that. :)

It's certainly terminally something. But the restriction is self-imposed. Four letter names for PCs is one of the few Phantasy Star conventions I'm still sticking to.
But thanks for your further suggestions, apart from Ghend which actually has five letters if you look really closely. :P

Wah?! Bugger, I pressed the G and the H at the same time: Gend!

You could also try Arke, Lodo, Xedd ("Zed") or ... Dave!

Not sure I like all of Phantasy Star's conventions. Surely that was more of a technical limitation in respect to how much memory was being used rather than anything else? *Sigh* Well, whatever you wish.

So Arias really can draw! Those are great, especially sketch 2.

...

I hope this doesn't mean I have to start working on Midsummer too.

Yes, sketch 2 is my favourite too. And yes, it does mean that. ;)

I'm pretty sure it was just so that all five characters' names could be displayed on screen next to each other during the battles... which is a pretty crappy reason, but I like four letter names anyway, all the best names have four letters. :)

EDIT: Yes, Dave! I'm calling the main character Dave. Thank you for suggesting.

About 4-letter names, I once made a cardinal list of 4-letter names I thought sounded cool and didn't seem to be used or overused.

This list came into creation after SotS, tho, since I have both an Alex and an Alec in that cast... although I wasn't adhering to any 4-letter rule there.

Daves rock! Be sure to slip in a 2001 reference there somewhere: "Are you sure you want to do this, David?"

Fred, my real name (written in my sig, see?) is - of course - also four letters. Ehehe.

Exactly what characteristics define a Dave, anyway?

I did exactly the same thing but with real names, as when I try to make any up they tend to sound... well, made up. I'm using mostly old Welsh, Irish, and northern European names because they seem the most appropriate. Oh yeah, and Dave.

"Everybody is dead, Dave!"
(not a 2001 reference, but the only sci-fi quote featuring the name Dave I can think of).

Dave is more hairy than Alex. =3 That's all I can think of right now.

Surely Dave has a more deadpan expression? A sort of subtle "what the hell am I doing here?" look?
