Why aren't you using tVS? Why did you all come here?

As much as I like this site, it doesn't have nearly as much material as tVS. I don't see why everyone is coming here. Some answers would be appreciated.

I will ignore all flames to this message. It is not a shameless plug. It regards the well-being of VERGE and its users.

Yeah, I understand the likes of Quantum Physics and Molecular Theory. What's the point? I just need you to tie my shoes.

Well, this is the official site of Verge. All Vergeness begins and ends here. I personally like the layout here a little better, though. I do visit tVS whenever possible, tho.

My problem is that the Verge Source is sorta slow to load and the message board takes even longer. Sometimes the mboard doesn't load at all. Verge-rpg.com is faster.

I couldn't get on. Also, I got all of TVS's material already. It's a nice place.

... I *am* using tVS as much as this place.

Except that it's not really noticable for two reasons:

1) I rarely post *anything* at all nowadays.

2) I rarely have anything On-Topic to post even if I did have the inclination.

So, rejoice in the somber fact that *I'm* not rejecting you... Much. :)

Because I don't use Verge anymore, and this place seems much less hostile towards random messages not having to do with anything.

Secondly, this site is much more festive! Look around, it's all green and shiny and such. Al tVS has is boring, lifeless, morbid white and blue.

Thirdly, tVS is horribly horribly slow. Currently I'm sitting on a DS-3, and in the time it takes for the message board to load, I could have downloaded some 20 gigs of illegally pirated intellectual prop... Erm, I mean, information that wants to be free!!!

Thirdly, tradition. I've always liked the style of the main verge site/Cless' board better. PLus it doesn't look like every other message board I visit. Not to mention the fact the tVS people always seem to whine about how people use things other than them. Of course, that hasn't been too bad of late.

Fourthly, well, this board is amusing. Watching from the shadows as newbies ask the same questions they did years and years ago just makes me feel all warm and squishy inside.

Fifthly, well, I have no fifth point... In fact, I don't know why I keep coming to these boards at all... I haven't touched verge since I posted NtWQ a month and a half ago, and have been living happilly as a C++/OpenGL masta' ever since... I guess I just have too much free time on my hands...

p.s. This is what I'd still be working on if my laptop hadn't turned to crap. http://members.home.net/lordfruitiger/shot1.jpg

The message boards have a weird pregap. Also, a DS-3 isn't a god connection, so quiet down. Chances are, a DS-3 for you is shared, not dedicated.

The boards are being fixed, and we have like 400 files. Why everyone dislikes the site is beyond me.

After seeing that most people are citing one of their main reasons of coming here as "it is the official site", I generated some questions. First of all, how can you call it official when it doesn't even have all of aen's tutorials up? Hell, it doesn't even have the documentation up! And, how can you call it the official site when the only real dev team (tSB) is working for tVS? AND, someone stated that "all VERGE starts and stops here". How can you support this when tVS has just as much, if not more, VERGE news?

I mean, we have articles and newbie guides and a FAQ! (questions like the translucency question recently asked come to mind...). I just find it frustrating when things we do to help people just rot.

Just my $0.02.

1. Before the grand redesign this site had all of aen's tutorials up.

2. It also had the docs.

I know the two above because I added them last year.

3. This is the official site precisely because it is almost never updated ^_-;

Seriously though I can't speak for other users but my own personal reason for coming here is that it's run by people I know and regard as friends. I have two reasons why I don't use tVS as much - one of which is that it is much slower to load (for a while earlier this week I couldn't even view the site as the connection kept timing out) - the second reason is personal.

Ben McGraw's lovingly crafted this website from scratch for years.
It's a lot prettier this go around because of Jon Wofford.
