It was a cold fall evening when the plan first entered his mind. It might not have been his dream--world domination--but it was a step in the right direction nevertheless. Over the past few years, he found that there were many people on the internet who wanted to make video games, mindless zombies who wanted to take gaming into their own hands. What perfect prey.
And so, 'Vecna' created Verge--"Vecna's Evil 'Reason Gripping' Engine". Its purpose was twofold; first, to bring in all those who were interested in game design, and secondly, to 'grip' their reasoning in such a manner that they would bow before Vecna, and even in his absence would carry on his cause.
Little did they know what his true causes were.
And they came, a trickle at first, then in vast waves, newbies hungering for the attention and power that only Vecna could give them. And he gave it too them. In return for the power he gave them, he gained their devotion. And slowly, Verge spread across the internet, pulling in new 'members' from around the globe. They congregated at a main site, known as Verge-RPG.com. Slowly, individual minds disappeared, and the vast entity known only as Verge found true life.
It was around this time that Vecna noticed the problems. The community was falling apart. Those once devoted were turning from him, choosing alternate paths, and he found that his vast army was no longer so vast. A new approach was needed. A new follower needed to be found.
Enter Tatsumi_oreo.
With the launch of the VergeSource, some of those lost were found again, and newbies flocked to Verge even more than before, attracted by the acceptance they found by those already there. Those belonging to Verge were a family. That was how it was supposed to be.
But alas, things were about to take a turn for the worse.
Miggle had been a member of the Verge community for only a short while before Tat starting getting on his nerves. Miggle accused Tat of not being a team player. In response, Tat threatened Miggle, and refused to leave him alone. This only infuriated Miggle further.
Finally, Miggle was down to his last straw, and he decided to visit Tatsumi. Assisted by Ear, another Verger who was fed up with Tat, they decided to approach Tat and give him two options. Either he could become a team player and be accepted by the Verge family, which always forgave those who worked against it, or he would be dead to the Verge family.
But Tat knew better. He secretly knew of Vecna's evil plot. However, he couldn't bring himself to tell Ear and Miggle, disgracing the family he still secretly honoured. Even though it was being used for evil, he couldn't forsake his brothers and sisters. And he was forced to decline, asking to be left alone by the Verge community... forever.
Miggle couldn't take it. Overcome with sorrow for his lost brother, he killed Tatsumi is a grievieous rage. When he realised what he had done, he fell to the ground, and wept.
Ear knew that what Miggle had done was wrong, but he could not let the rest of the Verge community know what had happened. However, their trail still needed to be covered. So, enlisting the help of some of his brothers in Verge, he attacked the VergeSource website, logging on then as Tat to blame himself for the attack, and then said that Tat was leaving for good. Nobody ever suspected that it was Ear who wrote the note, and not Tat. And all was well.
However, as he was looking through the VergeSource file system, Ear found a particularly disturbingly titled text file.
"death.txt"
He opened it hesitantly, then read what was inside.
It said the following:
"Tatsumi is Vecna."
It seemed like the whole world had come to a stop. Those three simple words... how could they be true?
But he knew they were. Tatsumi_oreo WAS Vecna. In defeating his disgraced brother, Miggle had killed their own leader, their guidance, their father.
And so Ear and Miggle returned to the Verge-RPG website, to pretend that nothing had ever happened. Miggle still didn't know the truth, and Ear knew it was better that way. This way, nobody would know that their leader was dead and their cause with it. All that was left now was to wait until the Verge-RPG site went defunct. Nobody would hear from Vecna, and for the most part, nobody would really notice. And slowly, maybe they could reclaim their lives. Maybe they could learn to break free of Verge.
Maybe, just maybe, they could learn to live again.

NOTE : This is in no way intended to attack Tat, Ear, Vecna, or Miggle. HOWEVER, where in the world IS Vecna?

now I know the truth.

I, being a brother that fell away and returned soon after miggle apparently killed vecna\tatsumi, never really knew what happened. And even though it was all anyone ever talked about at the time, no single brother or sister would take the time to explain the distressing situation to me. thankyou Shlock, now I can rest

From what tatsumi and others have hinted at, he's still around, lurking in "underground" channels meant to avoid newbies and the like, but I reason that he doesn't wants to be bothered in general. Why would you need him anyway?

Uh...I must say that was a pretty weird message. vecna is alive and well... I ate tacos with him earlier today. We're all busy with real life and work (McGrue, aen, vecna and myself all work for the same internet company).

thats just a cover for whats really happening. this "internet company" is really a cult and since vecnas death you have been awaiting his arival in his new body. when you find him this little cult of yours will create a verge game that uses subliminal messages to take control of all vergers and make them join your cult of vecna worshipping hippies.
i havent slept for 36 hours, its not my fault the penguins wont stop trying to kill me...

... but who really cares? :)

I was here before V2 was released... I know that Verge has a lot of 'history'... but this is more interesting.

But in case, you're bored enough to click on this, I suggest you do something more productive like work on your game.

Vecna didn't create VERGE through his own good will in the beginning. He was conned into making it by Hahn ;)
And the rest of the stuff you wrote about vecna being dead...no comment.

Ben McGraw's lovingly crafted this website from scratch for years.
It's a lot prettier this go around because of Jon Wofford.
Verge-rpg.com is a member of the lunarnet irc network, and would like to take this opportunity to remind you that regardless how babies taste, it is wrong to eat them.
