this is sort of out of place by reading the other posts on this forum, although, it seems logical. Currently i am looking for a small team to compose a rpg demo in verge. this demo will determine whether or not I would want the full game done in it. essentially, the demo is the forst mission in a rpg i have planned. it will have movies and the x,y,z character engine that i am working with my friend, Vaevictis666, to program. As i explained in short before, the engine is meant to work on the sprite layer only so some hard core verge coding is more than likly needed. I am an artist with no background in programming but i think that with the right combo of people, this demo could totally kick ass.
Just a note, this project will be shooting for quality so there is no development agenda. it is open to all people with verge skill and it will be sort of a hobby project. i do not plan to be pushing people into things but there might be some deadlines set by the general group on things so we can see what we have done.
So, if you want to test your skills,i know i do and want to work on an epic game, reply to this or e-mail me.
IN addition, I will restress that members who join this team must be very open minded and willing to spend long hours on something to make it work. comitment is nice but you are free to leave as you see fit.

I would love to help you figuring I suck at Sprites. I am a programmer and a writer. The only thing I see that is wrong about your post is that you seem to want us to work long hours but your post says you are only making a demo to see if you want to make something in Verge, I would help but only if you show commitment by making more than just a demo.

you know what, you are right and maybe i should rephrase that somewhat. You see, im a little skeptical of the capabilities of the verge engine especially when placing it on the board for things i wish to acomplish. Yes, if I were to assemble a good team, i would want to work on a full version game but im worried about how long that would take and people would probably start leaving. the way i see it, a demo can show off what we can do with it and with luck, keep people intersted. I may seem unrealistic in my goals but i think that the right people could more than make it happen. the term demo is used loosdly in this case as that is essentially to demonstrate the systems that have to be programed in verge to make thisproject possible. In a sense, this is kind of the test. altough, if everything is working and does so in a way that everyeone can agree on, we will definatly be making the full version. Belive me, my ultimate goal is to create something in full, but a demo is a good place ot start.
Included in this demo would be:
-Fully functioning field graphics and movement engine. i must stress the importance of this as i will be making the sprites in 200x200 so they will need to be resized in real time properly.(3d movment)
-Fully functioning menu system. this will work nothing like the verge engines default menu.
-Working battle engine for 3 heros. (this battle system is complex so dont ask now)
-6 hours of working plot scrits that will lay out the first bit of the game. this should but not nessisarily include the cutscenes. right now, I cant do these but im getting there.
This game in the end is planned to look like star ocean 2 for the playstation which means we get to play with 3d effects on layers and map elevations. fun stuff to make the game more imersive. this is the importance of the character movment engine.
So, when you look at it, a demo makes sense as it will dmonstrate what still needs to be perfected.for an idea of the sprites i can draw:

incidently, i am jugling between two game ideas that we can do. one is called the mystic square and is like final fantasy in its gameplay and the other is called "Vedic Mirage". this game is a lot like zelda in its gameplaybut uses fixed camera angles. there is only one main character and the battle system is more like an action game. both are reasonably developed at this point so I would need to sit down with a small writing team to make it complete.
for thmain character to vedic mirage:

well, I realize that i may seem unrealistic but given some very serious meetings, this project coud really be one of the kick ass ones.

well, dwaaaa!!!! when did you say that? oh well whatever. if anyone is interesed in this project, pls icq me or e-mail me. Im sort of in the middle of a messey web site move so you will all have to bear with me. should be ok though.
the new site is

as for this project, i have some serious ideas that will screw the verge engine over on so many occasions as im not sure if it will run fast enough. some of which involve creating a new variably translucency engine for rgb props. if i were to place a layer between the characte layer (the 3 plane movment one) and the overhead layer (above the character) i was thinking that that layer could be set so that RGB properties on that layer are subject to tranlucency effects. say rgb 000 - 101010 are only set to 10% opacity. rgb 101010 - 303030 could be set to a sligtly higher opacity but only on this layer. so we could do semi 3d effects. i also wanted a piggy back layer that is actually not a layer but acts like one for maps that involve modifying the character. say you are in a grassey field. you might want to add a little rustling grass under the character as they walk . this could be on a layer that tracks, and follows the character layer so even in 3d space, it will track and appear at the characters feet. I dont know much about verges map engine but we would need to bypass it in a way because the sprite draw and tile movment is either to large or too slow for this purpose. we would need to impliment free movment on the character plane which may or may not render verge's plot scripting useless..
man, this is almost a scratch programming project isnt it?
oh, about sprites. i will be providing them in 300x300 optimized for 1024x768. this is so when the character animation is closest to zero on the zyz plane, it will not become pixelated. this is also so when it is off in the distance or far down the z plane, it will not look like crap when the engine virtually resizes it.character sprites will be entered as a 4 vertex object and those 4 vertexes are not modifiable. they have to move on a level plan ie, if the poin at bottom right moves at all, the other 3 have to move in proportion to that.
geez!!! im going off on this one arent I. have i scared anyone away from me officialy yet? Oh well, I think this might clear up any issues that may arise about my commitment as an artist who knows nothing of programming. he he,
contact me.

Ok well here's my standard thing I tell artists looking for coders. (which is all to rare) I'll be more than happy to help you with your coding if you'll help me with my art. Sound like a fair swap?

It's like I said. I could help with the coding, however I do have my own project I'm working on, and could always use an artist (say whenever this project is "at a standstill" or "finished"). And I'm hesitant to fully commit at this point. I'd like to say I'm in but I don't want to go into a project that I might have to back out of. I mean with my own project (that I'm currently doing solo) I can leave it for an extended period of time (in fact I did at one point). I probably won't be able to fully commit until I see what sort of coding is going to be involved (if you still want to completely rework the entity system, that may take quite a bit of code). However, working on some one else's project would greatly help me with my own (by helping me learn the languae better, and giving me ideas, etc.). So I guess I'm in. (being in college though I won't necessarily have a great deal of time to put to the project)
