Hi,

I found some old CHR files I made with 'ACE' for the old VERGE and now I want to use these characters again - how can convert these files to pcx or bmp or anything I could read from a windows program?

tnx,
Sven Magnus

I'm not sure if ace has an export function, but I KNOW v2chr does. Convert the v1 chr to a v2 chr using chrconv (not sure were you can find it) and open it up with v2chr. Press 'F7' to export it as pcx file.

Hmmm... Since I've been using ACE a lot recently, I *think* you can just resave the file as a .bmp in ACE, and it should work. I *know* it works for .bmp to .pcx conversions.

both previously mentioned but I'll try to go into more detail.

In ACE you can open v1 chrs and edit them. You can also save these as a pcx. So that's all you need to do if you want an image of the chrfile.

If what you are going for is making the chrs compatible in v2, you can simply use chrconv.exe. This utility converts any v1 chr into a v2 chr. Then you can use it in v2 games all you want. Keep in mind that once you do this, ACE will not be able to open these v2 chrs.

When I read your post about saving files as .bmp from ACE I thought "what?", but I tried it and it works. It's been so long since I worked on it that I'd forgotten it could handle this format.

btw PHAGE rocks. Unfortunately I haven't had much time to play the new one. But it's good so far. :)

Yah, since I use ACE to transfer everything I make for P.H.A.G.E. into .pcx files, I've occasionally needed to change one back into the .bmp again. I hadn't tried it for .chrs, tho'.

Thanks for the P.H.A.G.E. feedback, by the way. I'm nigh-obsessively keeping track of all mention I find... Hmm. I probably should get out more. :)
