Okay, so I'm trying my damnedest to design an RPG with mechs in it. Just so I don't give it a gay name, does "Mechanoids" sound good?

I thought of it and it's catchy, and I can't seem to get it out of my head. Just wondering if that name would seem to fit a serious RPG.

The name of the mechs is much more important if it's also the name of the game. Mechanoids sounds okay I guess, but it reminds me of that cheesy Cartoon Network cockfight anime 'Zoids'. I might have some kind of robot combat-armor in a game I'm thinking of, but it's not terribly important to the plot, hence their name isn't nearly as important as it is in yours.

Meh' I think it has more of a toony/cheesy sound too it. if your going for something serious try something like. Metal Dragons, MetaX (where X is the variable word) Chrome Death, Blue Hell.. and so on.. the name doesn't actually have to do anything with the game. but it could have some relation

mechaniods sounds like your trying too hard... now if you had some kinda origional name for your robots like in the game xenogears... the mechs were called gears and the ultimate gear that you get in the game is actualy called xenogears. also from what I'e com to belive is that names for games or stories and whatnot are usualy best ecided after you have the whole plot going and what the story is gonna be like... I dont know if you've gotten that far or not but just thought I'd mention it.

Omni

Apocalyptic Battlesuit Mechanoid

Has that anime title feel to it. It's easy to create an anime title, they are all in the format of

(Adjective)+(Modifier)+(Object/Name)

Anyway, my two cents.

It is not wrong to not understand, for we are all ignorant, but neither is understanding pointless.

Yeah, I don't have a complete story yet...it's just sketchy stuff for how the game is introduced.

I really wasn't planning on calling them "mechanoids" anyways...I just thought the name was real catchy.

I'm sure I'll figure somethin' out. Thanks for the input.

lol That sounds cheesier than "mechanoids"

yeah....oids. Does sound like zoids.

Reminds me of Tremors when the guy's like: "it has to have an 'OIDS' in there!"

"We'll call them...GRABBOIDS!!"

Well, I had the name mechanoids before I started even thinking of a story...however.

Part of the story is that there is this semi-primitive race of people that has some kind of natural technology where they "grow" things rather than build them. One way or another, mechs end up being grown using this technology.

So that would KINDA make since, but all of you are right, it is a cheesy name. I'll figure something out.

Anyone got any cool ideas?

BTW: if you want to give me any story ideas (trust me, I need them), send them:

You're going to be changing the title around anyway as soon as you have the plot down. Settle for "Mechanoids" as a working title and then worry about it later.

Find a Latin dictionary, then come up with some
really simple, obvious title like "Killer Robots" and
translate it into Latin. That always sounds cool.
Kind of like "Deus Ex."

Furthermore, try to factor nature, organics, or
something along those lines into your title, since
that is a very unique theme in your game.

That is all.

Hm A game name doesnt need to fit the game itself.
Like the name ''Final Fantasy'' has nothing to do with the game...
Try something drastic like a sigle for something in your game, as an example: O.M.S (Organical Mechanoid System) Im very bad at this. Hahahaha, anyway, you dont need to identify your game trough its name.

Hey, I've got some really weird storylines for ya if you need them. I'll also help design the game for you if you want, since I'm really, really bored right now.

BladeDragon

I only recommend this from personal experience, but if you have the storyline down cold, and you know your characters like the back of your hand, the engine, the whole real concept, naming the game kind of develops naturally after that. I made the mistake of naming my game when all I knew was the world name. ;p And let's face it, "The Realm of Trebezia" really didn't catch anyone's attention, but "Lucid Soul" has a lot more to do with the game theme and storyline, and after 7 years now of off and on game development on this thing, i only renamed it about a month or two ago. Your case may be entirely different, but truth is, game names have little relavence till you establish your name really. Squaresoft's a great example of this, no one buys their games because of what the game's called, you still have to pick up the box and look at the back to see if Legend of Mana is a game your interested in. But as for Mechanoids, sounds fine by me, and with mechs in the game it's a pretty exclusive title. ^_^ Good luck with it bro!
