I think more people would make games with V2 if it were a bit easier to use. I mean, right now you d/l it and what do you get? Some executables and a couple of text files for documentation.

I propose that some of us get together to create a new distribution of V2. This would include a demo game, some (good) premade tilesets, a complete VC function library, a paper-doll system for making CHRs like Verge Online was going to have, and other goodies of that sort.

I realize having premade graphics would kind of make some games generic, but chances are if the developer didn't take the time to make his/her own graphics, the game wouldn't have gotten made at all without the premade graphics. And better a generic game than no game, eh? Plus, premade graphics make it easier to get started, leaving the door open for the creation of unique graphics once the story and stuff has been fleshed out.

So, what do you think? Reply, reply! I'd be willing to work on something along these lines (I need a good project), but I can't really draw.

Zaratustra recently did just that. Did you see his EZV21.00 he released? It's on the VergeSource news page. But that doesn't mean you can't make one too. I there are more newbie-friendly programs like this, more people will use Verge2. By the way, are you the same torin from the...past?

You think right. If anyone made it even remotley easier then there would be alot more games out. I've been trying at this for awhile now (year or 2, partly because I'm not to smart with computers). I haven't given up for the sole reason that I have enough graphics, story, and music completed to put together a demo of my game.

I was here back when V1 was still in production, so I suppose I am the same "Torin from the Past". I kind of went away for a while because VERGE didn't seem like it was going anywhere. Things seem to be picking up steam a little more now, so I thought I'd return and see what was happening.

I didn't see Zaratustra's file before I posted the message, but immediately afterwards I did.

One of the biggest barriers, IMHO, is the art barrier. I mean, quite a few people want to make a game but have absolutely no experience making art. You can learn to program fairly easily, but learning to draw is harder, esp. on limited-resolution tiles and characters. That's why I thought some nice premade tilesets and a paper-doll CHR maker would be nice.

I think I'd be great to have everything in just one package. Documentation, art & programming tutorials, sample game(s) with well-commented source code, useful utilities, and so on. I mean, people don't want to spend hours putting the pieces together. They just want to get it and play with it.

Anyway, I'm kind of repeating myself. I'm bored (stupid taking-forever MP3 download). So...bye!
