All I can say if your a newbie. Expect more responces like that. Here at verge we're like a bunch of grumpy old men. KILL THE NEW GUY!!!! but anyway. Wait till the vergesource comes back and download bmp2vsp. or just use the import pcx thing.

Honest!

And if you fish around my page (http://verge-rpg.com/~tsb) you might be able to find bmp2vsp in one of the zips in the file section. It should be in the v2+i zip.

(it's a jungle in there, though!)

I not as much of a newbie as you think. You yourself said "wait till the vergesource comes back and download bmp2vsp." Well it's not up right now, is it? So why do you think I asked?

I knew it was there but it's not available right now. I don't see your logic in whatever... and I have been around way longer then you have.

Seriously. Stop flaming every newbie that comes in.
I've seen you do it before, and you should stop this
crap right now and give them a chance. I remember, not
too long ago, when you were a newbie. You were just as
"curious" about things, and sometimes you even got
flamed for saying lots of stupid things(which you've gotten
better at...except for this time). And this guy didn't
say anything wrong or stupid that would make him deserve
a flame. Yet you told him to "chill out" or "get the
file yourself". So the point is, give him a chance, and
try not to bring your personal problems onto this board.
It's no wonder that we haven't been getting many newbies
in the Verge scene lately. They get flamed like hell
if they ask a simple question, and that is really
unfair.

"Expect more responses like that"? "Grumpy old men"?
That's pretty sad how this situation
is recognized, yet "we" do nothing about it. Oh well,
I guess there's only a few of us left that are
reasonable people...like myself. And that accounts for
the reason why the Verge community is diminishing, and
it will probably never be back to it's once great
splendor if things continue the way they are.

A guy comes here asking a completely legit question (although in a kind of 'aggravated' way) then ThinIce offers to help. Then ThinIce goes to that person's webpage - sees that person called him a lamer on the webpage - and revokes his offer of help.

ThinIce should be commended for simply saying "Nevermind" instead of going on a flaming tyrade :P

The reason VERGE isn't in it's glory days anymore is because:
a) Many of it's key members have moved on and not been replaced with new key people ^_^
b) VERGE - the program - has become unstable, split into many versions, very hard to use, and overly script ( coding in newbie terms ;) ) reliant.
c) People aren't releasing demos much- instead chosing to gather 50 people and do a full scale production to rival Final Fantasy 9.

Us being asses to the newbies has a part of the VERGe community since the beginning ^_^

Wait in the 3 years I've been with verge. THAT's right 1998. I never seen your name on the message boards. So don't go assuming, stuff you don't know.

I called him a lamer because he was an ass before when he was still JesusFreak. I forget what I asked but he made fun of my web page, told me to look at his, and never answered my question since that thread degraded into a flame war much like this one.

I've been around since the Verge Repo, the days of vecna being the only coder, the original release of Silver Circle, Saga of the Stars, and Revelation, and just because I did not post on the boards does not neccessarily mean that I haven't been here.

Let's see you say something that happened in '96.

I'm not sure if I'm just being a lazy ass or what. Can I import old 8-bit VSP's into WinMapEd?

and I'm also fairly certain that it was possible to hack in 16-bit VSPs to Verge2000. How exactly do I go about doing that?

ThinIce isn't a complete "saint" in this situation. I remember the post he made long ago when he told Kazier to "look at his webpage", which was a direct insult to Kazier's(and the tone was arrogant overall). But that was in the past, and he may have wised up since then. And Kazier shouldn't have left the lamer thing on his page, because permanent hatred isn't always a smart decision. So, no matter how you "look at the situation", both of them are at fault.

H@tchet wrote a script for Verge2k that lets you import 16-bit vsps. But the problem is, the VergeSource is still down, so you can't get it just yet. Wait a few days til' it comes back up, and hopefully they'll still have all of the old files up.

Bollocks. Things have been like this for over a year now.
Is the community dead? This can go on into eternity, but there will always be people who are willing to help, so things aren't that bad...

Thin Ice should've helped him despite the fact that he was called a lamer on that site. That would have solved things far more easily.
That would've been the only good option.
