I've been flamed by Sylverknight a little while back - who misinterpreted my post and thought I was bashing jesusfreak although I was supporting him.
Now I've been bashed by evilbob (in a really mature way, too ^^) and maybe by StevenMarine (I don't get his post... and I showed his post to some friends who are native English speakers - unlike me - and they didn't get it either :P)...
I apologize for having posted a maybe too harsh post... but requests like that offend ME (okay, me, not you guys maybe. ^^). That's because I get requests like that everyday by people I have never heard of. And I find the sucking up + request routine really cheap and unoriginal, sorry. ^^;
This was my fault and I also shouldn't have spoken for the Verge artists (I know however that the more popular (internet) artists like Keiiii, Khanh/Kon, Dragonfly or saka agree with me there :P). I'm sorry.
But what's up with this board? It seems like all the newbies feel so brave and flame everybody. o_O I usually try to be nice since I can't stand eliteism (which most of the REAL oldbies are doing sadly though)... so I try to be nice and open to everybody. ;_;
Again, the last post of mine was a bit harsh. But here on this board is a hostility I haven't experienced in any other community (not even on the Vergesource board with pretty much the same community)... Where is the friendly and welcoming community everybody is talking about? O_o
Anyway, I won't bother posting only another single post on this board. I'm way too busy to read immature flames... and you can still contact me via email, ICQ, IRC or on the VS board if you want to.
Have fun,
Niko~

This board needs more talk about actual Verge games. That would perhaps clean the air a bit. People are talking too much about issues they STRONGLY disagree with each other. Tho I wouldn't take any flaming too personally, some people just cannot agree with each other.
Everytime when someone gets flamed for his work, releasing one's work in public gets harder for everyone. But, exept for Jesusfreak's tutorial, only opinions (and the persons behind them) have been flamed. Then again, that's almost as bad...
I hope that the Verge Expo will increase the number of new game announcements, posts like "My site's been updated" and talking about vergegames in general.
Anyhow, I'd really like to see "www.fr-rpg.com updated" -posts in the future on this board (even if it's not a Verge game), so please don't leave indefinitely. Most people here like you and your work.

"I apologize for having posted a maybe too harsh post... but requests like that offend ME (okay, me, not you guys maybe. ^^). That's because I get requests like that everyday by people I have never heard of."
most of us are generally flattered when that happens. I thought you hated elitism.
"where is the friendly and welcoming community everybody is talking about?"
you're the one who exploded at someone who merely asked a favor, and didn't even direct it at YOU.
"Anyway, I won't bother posting only another single post on this board."
you shouldn't take things so personally. it makes you look like a jackass ^_~
but seriously, we don't hold any grudges. nobody wanted to insult you. we just wanted to make you feel bad for insulting someone who didn't do much to warrant it. feel free to continue posting, especially if you yourself can lose some of the hostile attitude you complain about.

Well I guess its only right that I say something here. Many people think I just came out of nowhere to spam the board, and this isnt true. I first learned about Verge quite a few years ago, and I have been using it since Verge1 was not even close to completed. I followed everything that happened with Verge 2 and, although I never got around to making much myself, I played tons of the demos and talked in the forums a good bit (i also remember talking to you before Niko, when you went by Niegrow.) In any case, I didn't mean to look like I was kissing ass, and I didn't mean to be patronizing, but complements typically go over a lot better than "someone should make me a drawing cus they should."
Obviously you've got some personal reasons for wanting to leave, so I can't really say anything there, but I think that things are getting a little out of proportion, and people just need to settle.
I came looking for one thing, I got it, and I could have left and never looked back - but I did, because I'm not trying to screw anyone over or be a dick.

For the records, I envy your drawing skills. I'm only half as good as you are. You are top of the pecking order. But as a conversationalist, you irritate me to no end with your pretense of maturity, and endless contradictions. As one of the three people listed as the reasons you left, I need to help hip you to what I was talking about. I didn't know you weren't a native english speaker, and my wording really should have been less lofty. Maybe the same aplys to this post;). If native english speakers can't get it, I'll have to summarize. I inverted your argument against mass requesting, and used some quotes from prior conversations as carry. Hmm. Maybe you took it as one of the "immature flames" you are "way too busy" for. Well, I interpretted your "maybe too harsh" post as an immature flame, to an energetic request holder. In my intense hostility, I thought that this "friendly and welcoming community everybody is talking about", needed someone to offer him the friendly welcome. I didn't realize you "can't stand eletism". If so, I would have been harsh to him too. that would be much more mature than welcoming him. Ah, I see. We were the immature ones. You were not only harsh in a friendly way, you also apologize gracefully, and your descision to leave is also mature. So sorry darling. That nasty Sylverknight missinterpretted your post in a vindictive way, obviously(I didn't get it either). Evilbob missinterpretted your flame maturely. so maturely it's hostile. And you attempted to interpret my post. No fault of your own, just english. And sylverknight couldn't have been confused by your english, natturally. It's mature of you to leave. Well, as we immature newbies mire in the eletist hostility (you don't ever find friendliness of this caliber in art communities(If you did, I'd have stayed there)), we only wish we could be as mature as you. Godspeed.
In case your not sure, I was sarcastic at the end. Sorry, but I think you are too self-righteous. You are a nice person, but you're a narcisist. I like you anyway. Just be less testy. When you're ready, you should come back.

I'd like to add my 2 cents...
First Niko's comment was immature and lame.. He flamed a guy looking for help. I came to Lofti's graphics needs and I think his webpage looks great! (trying to change the subject)
The problem with the aura on this webpage is that: The young verge community is very angry. For some reason the smallest thing pisses them off.
A note to the word SPAM: - This is a word that has flooded the internet communities by young internet junkies. SPAM - Just means *ADVERTISEMENT* When the makers of commercial releases make you aware of new software you don't call it SPAM - Its Advertising. But a starting project is trying to get *HELP*, *SUPPORT*, or *INTEREST*. People call it spam.
The wierd part about this behavior is, I was in the same spot as Niko.. (Getting flamed by the Verge community) - For "SPAMMING" -
Back then my product didn't have as good graphics as I have now.. So BACK THEN - Its was considered "SPAMMING" - Now, I get the same YOUNG "wanna-bee" programmers begging me for Ev4. So in all honesty people who use the word "SPAM", are just the same as Niko. Taking an "ELITE" attitude for people looking for help or support.
For all the people who hate spamming, I have a question: "How else would you hear about new products if you don't LISTEN to word of mouth referals?" - Hence, SPAM..
Before you throw stones be sure your house isn't made of glass. The Verge community is BY FAR the most immature and meanest of all RPG Making communities. *AND I DON"T KNOW WHY* Collectively you guys have a great engine, great support, and a large user base. Lets try to get along.
Niko - I don't want you to leave..
Lofti - Forgive Niko for his rude mistake....
And everyone else, give Niko a break.. His comment was rude but the moment I read his apology I forgave him. *That's part of growing up and moving on..*
The fact that this thread has gotten so long means that there is more interest in Fighting within verge-rpg.net than it is on production of RPG's.
Anyone who remember me, and Explorations.. would know that the Verge Community and I are bitter-sweet friends. There was a time I was banned from this site. Now I get more *respect* from users because Ev4 looks so good, but nothing about it has changed. Just better graphics..
So in conclusion, you all shouldn't be so quick to judge, but instead just remind people of thier manners. (Give the guy the benifit of the doubt.) - He did, after all apologize.
"And in a shadowed hush a dark fog slides in, as the slightest whisp can be heard as all the double-barrelled shotguns switch their traget."

Newbei's are annoying for Oldbeis. Not always, but more often than most newbei's think.
Now there are two things you can do with newbeis.
1: You can place a guillotine post so that the message board becomes a mess and the newbei will not have a great time.
or
2: You can help out these "newbeis" so that they eventually become oldbies.
Though method 1 gives a better feeling for the poster, because he feels he's getting out in the open and because he's saying what others don't dare to say, method 2 is better.
Why? Well, the reason is quite obvious.
Though you may feel pathetic when helping a newbei (then again, you may actually enjoy it, that depends), the newbei will learn stuff and eventually become an oldbei. When this is done often, there will be more oldbies. When there are more oldbies, the current oldbies don't need to help so much.
So this doesn't only raise the amount of oldbeis, it will also reduce the amount of newbeis per oldbei, which (usually) makes for a more enjoyable commmunity.
Bottom line: The straightforward way is not the way to go with newbeis, because there will come new newbeis all the time. So we'd have a permanent mess on the boards.
Finally, you may wonder why things are different at the Verge Source. Well, there are two important factors here:
1. The Verge Source has got a non 100% compatible password system, so some people are unable to go there.
2. Cless' Board got abandoned, and most (if not all) of the people from that place went here. We all know about the newbei/oldbei ratio there 8P
I really wonder if any of you followed this. I berely followed it myself [grin]

I'm not really so sure that the Verge Source boards are really any "better". Aside from jesusfreak, the main thing that's happened here has been this incident. Which, as far as I can see has happened thusly: Lofti posts an art request. Niko flames the bejeezus out of him, and a few people inform him that it probably wasn't necessary to do so. Niko responds by condemning the negative attitude of the board, suggesting we shouldn't be flaming people and proceeds to tell us he will only be at the Verge Source boards.
Doesn't make a helluva lot of sense to me. ^_~

This board has only been here since a few weeks.
Besides that, things have been quite a mess on
the temporary board.
I'm not saying this board is going to be a mess,
because if we help newbeis instead of flaming them, it
won't.

In that 'Lofti' post I read it and I don't think Niko was being mean. It seemed to me like he was just trying to help out.
I also don't think Lofti should have been posting here in the first place. This is a *VERGE* board after all and his request wasn't even Verge related. If he wanted art for his website there are plenty of other places to ask for it.
Also if you people hate flaming so much then why are you flaming Niko here saying that what he said was wrong and what not.
Oh well thats my two cents.
Stop looking at me!

Come Niko, join me! Together, we shall defeat the evil tyranical Verge warlords who make us sob at night in our beds! It is the only way! Mwahahahaha!
Damn, I guess I can't escape... But it really surprises me that there still is this much conflict among the various verge peoples. I mean, come on! Make games!
Anyway, it's about 1am, and I had nothing better to do, so I decided to see if you'd all destroyed yourselves yet... I suppose it's only a matter of time...
