importing PCX for VSP

is there a size limit or something? i drew up a house, converted it to verge colors and plan to slap a hicolor version on top of it but i cant even get the verge colored PCX to work! ive got the 1 pixel white border around the image with 1 pixel space between each frame. i tried pasting the grid onto a big block of one solid color from the verge palette and it still doesnt work. the image im trying to import is a small house. its 12 blocks wide, 13 blocks tall.. with the spacing between blocks its 205 pixels wide, 222 pixels tall. can maped not handle this big of a picture?

oh.. it crashes when i try to import the image.

yep. its the size thats screwing it up. i tried importing just one block of the house and it worked fine. is there something i need to do to allow for importing more than 18x18 pixels at a time? importing block by block would be a pain... a small house is 156 blocks... importing a large castle block by block... UGH! theres gotta be an easy way to do this that i just dont know about.
