humm...okay, I don't think I need to tell you all that i'm a newbie (you must get tons each days anyway ^^ )
I just bumped into this site not so long ago and I though all this was very interesting.

I had an old project in mind that i just took out of the dust and wanted some opinion about the artwork. (all the doodles are new though, just did them yesterday )

This last one is my first attempt at doing a sprite (not very good... I still need practice ^^;;;;

Anyways, thanks in advance for the critique!!!

I, arguably, and the most brutaly honest person here when it comes to reviewing another vergers art; Partly because all I do here is art, I can't program worth a lick. From the Quality and consistency in your style, I can easily tell you are a well aged artist. now, if this were not so; if a non-artist newbie had posted these pictures, characterized by angular faces, small torsos, enlarged hands, and large-comic clothing; I would pick them apart, pointing out all the *aesthetic* flaws that they could improve on. But you did not simply fall upon the previously stated stylistic elements, those things are the core of your art style, and the style is part of you. In short, I love them, anything done consistently, is done well. your style certainly is fresh and new, I've never seen anything like it, but it's allready growing on me simply because of your consistency, you know what your doing, and you do it well. Keep up the good work. hope to see a lot more of you in the verge years to come.

P.S. Everything I said about your pictures goes for your sprite as well, it follows your style. ;)

nice! :) i would give it more shading but it is already looking very 3D and lifelike. Its got style/personality... something that a lot of sprites are missing. your almost making me wanna switch to a bigger sprite size. :o\

All those sketches are pretty darn good. The only critique I'd have on them is that the second one's head was a bit too angular, but I think you might have been going for that. CG them! They'd look great if you spent a few hours on them with photoshop.

As for the sprite, not bad at all for your first one. It would look better if you rounded off the outline so it didn't look so pixely.

Some advice on sprite making: you've got your work cut out for you if you're going to make each individual sprite as detailed as that. If you can pull it off my hat goes off to you, but generally most people end up using the same basic template for each sprite, ala ff6 and other console rpgs.

At any rate, welcome to verge.

I liked your sketches so much, I CG'd your fire.jpg cell style, I don't have web space to post, so I'll E-mail it to you if you want.

Sure!! No problem! I'd be happy to see what you did!

Plus i wanted to show you guys what kind of coloring i'll be doing for those chara. I have an older drawing that has the exact same look i wanna give to these three.

And thank you very much for the warm welcome and the nice comments!!! I really do appreciate it!!!
I dunno if a 19 years old girl should be considered a well aged artist, but i do think i still have a lot to learn!!

As for the sprites and animation, i dunno if i'll have any problem. I've got time to work on them. But i'll consider trying something easier. ^^

My main problem most likely will be coding. I've done some Visual Basic. And when i look a the Verge coding, I do recognize some similer things... But i'm not expert at it. (But we're all here to learn right ^^ )

Cheers and thanks again!!! :)

I think its in the female faces. meybe im just retarded. anyway yeah.. coding.. bleh. im in the same boat. did a little Pascal but im not good. man you got the color picking down too.. mines all bright and neony. meybe ill try a re-coloring. any tips?

Thank you very much ^^
And yes, this was colored with Photoshop. With the airbrush to be more precise.
I am an animation student. So I know a little bit about art. But colors, i've learned by myself 100% And I just started coloring with photoshop a year ago.

Maybe that's why my art resembles Batman Beyonds (since it's a animated tv serie)

As for tips: I really think your pics is nice. What to check out... I'd say be carefull when you pick colors. Choosinge tons of different and very eye clashing colors in a same pics can be a bad idea. For exemple, i'd had a little more blue in that green for the dragon. That way the two colors would mix. Same thing for the guy's hair. For the hair i'd had a little more brown...not much. That way the colors associate with the others. That's what you wanna go for. ^^

Hope this helps you out. If you have other questions, you can always ask me. I'll be happy to help. :)

Cheers!!
