I'm involved in a project using V2.6. Why V2.6? I find it the most stable and powerful version of Verge so far. Sure, the 2.7 releases are nice and "windows" but WinMapEd has "issues" with my comp for some reason, among other things.
So that means I'm using V2.6's MapEd, as in, the last release before WinMapEd.
I have two questions, actually, regarding this MapEd.
First, we are making our game in 640x480. I know it sounds insane but we have a few ideas to get around the problem of drawing billions of tiles. That's beside the point, tho.
Is it in any way possible to set MapEd to 640x480 resolution, so we don't have to build all our maps at 2x zoom?
Second, in my experience, MapEd has never supported hi-color (up until WinMapEd, I assume.) Since we will be importing lots of tiles from externally made images, do we have to convert those images to the Verge palette (256 colors), to any 256-color palette, or can they stay hicolor?
Addendum: if they have to be reduced to 256 colors for MapEd to handle them, can different tiles have different palettes and still show up alright in Verge, albeit looking like pure shit in MapEd due to palette conflicts?
Okay, I think I'm done.
