I figured someone somewhere might want to know what I've been up to. :)
http://verge-rpg.com/~tsb/files/winmaped27.zip
The most notable changes are that it can import PNG images as tilesets, and that there's a very incomplete CHR editor in there. (it doesn't even save yet)
There is an option in the preferences menu to save old v2 style CHRs, I'm fairly sure, if you want to use it for that, but it still requires v2.7's graphics plugins. (it'll search for a user.cfg in the same directory as its executable)
The last v2 specific winmaped can still be found at http://verge-rpg.com/~tsb/files/winmaped.zip, by the way.
Enjoy. ^_^

I have a partially working openGL driver for v2.7. It just needs some software rendering code in it for backup. (when the hardware can't do what I need it to do, like blitting large images on old 3D cards that can't handle textures bigger than 256x256)
I'll be designing new font and CHR file formats, and winmaped will edit them. DOS-syle utils couldn't hurt as well.
Most notably, I need to make a new map file format, since events can be named, and not simply numbered.
Anyone else think there's anything else v2.7 needs before it can emerge from betaness?

Be able to make the tile size to your liking, so we can make 24x24 tiles and stuff.

Is there any way to disable the free movement? If not, I'd suggest adding that sometime...

And another thing I forgot to ask (sorry...) Will V2.7 support truetype fonts?

Alpha blending is great, but it's static, and it doesn't reproduce some of the effects that the translucency modes had, especially addition and subtraction. I really need to be able to fade blits dynamically, and Alpha blending just doesn't cut it.
I still like Alpha Blending though. I was going to request it, but you coded it first. :)

Will that do? ^_^
You'll be able to tint the alpha value as well. (ie make it more/less opaque)
