1. V2K can support 16 bit Images only, not maps/chrs/etc. But you must put hicolour in the user.cfg
2. ?? Make one? I don't think there is one.
3. Get more colours, what do you mean? If you want 24bit maps, etc check out The Speed Bumps version, I can't remember what it is though. Just find his site from TVS.
4. The phone must be at least 3 feet away... That is too far to save a life.

No version of v2 supports '16-bit' images... because the only thing that's 16-bit about them is the image buffer that the video card interprets. Since each video card is different, the amount of bits each channel has differs from card to card. Your video card may use 565... but someone else's uses 5551. (...and DX has a mode for 4444.) So, a 16-bit image format wouldn't make much sense, would it? Anyway, when loading an image, v2 takes a 24-bit image and converts all 3 bytes worth of data per pixel and crams it into 2 bytes.
v2k (that is v2.5 6.0 and v2.5 6.1) can only load 24-bit images (only pcx files).

As I was saying...
v2+i could load 24-bit images (pcx files and bmp files), vsps and chrs.
v2k+j could load 24-bit images (pcx files, however the bmp code was screwed up) vsps, and chrs.
v2.6 is the same deal, but now it claims to load 24-bit bmp files (which I just learned probably doesn't work.)
As for future releases, there are plans to add supports for PNGs. Also, with DX, a four bit alpha channel can be used, allowing for real transperiancies.
