"But, Microsoft being the enormous force that it is, we're pretty confident that, like DirectX, everyone will simply have it [the .NET Framework] after a little bit." -vecna

After recently visiting windows update, and having the .NET Framework already installed, I noticed it tried getting me to download the Japanese .NET Framework. Like usual, I figured it was some kind of error, and didn't download it. Especially since it normally asks me to download drivers for hardware I don't even have O_o

But yesterday I was at a friend's house and visited Windows update. Making sure he was keeping up-to-date and all. I noticed it did have the English version there on the update list for his PC... and he was running a practically fresh install of Windows XP.

Looks like Microsoft really is trying to push this as hard as DirectX

.NET is much more to Microsoft that DirectX ever was. WindowsXP was originally going to come with .NET built in (though I don't think they had it finished in time for the XP release). It wont be long before you simply must hvve .NET in order to run any new windows applications, not just games or a specific kind of software.
