In case you haven't already heard, a new HoV is being held this Friday.

This contest will last 72 hours and will run from
August 10th, 6 PM EST to August 13th, 6 PM EST.

The current rules are as follows:

1) Your team must consist of no more than four members.
2) All components used in the game must be original and may not be created before the time of the contest. This includes, but is not limited to source code, graphics and story. The only exception to this is music, which does not need to be original.
3) Your game must adhere to the theme given to you.
4) Your game must be turned in on time.

The HoV coordinator, Jeff, can be contacted at frogmanjeff_2@yahoo.com or through ICQ at #123389070, or preferably at #HoV on esper.net. The entries must be sent to the coordinator via one of the mediums. You must also register your team before the time of the contest.

Good luck,

I forgot to mention that you may use any version of VERGE available. This includes V1, V2, V2.7 and their variants.

Okay. The new HoV website is located at:
http://hov.verge-rpg.com/current/
However, you can still access the old website at:
http://calypso.spaceports.com/~mnij/hov/index.html
Also, a slight alteration to the rules has been made. Teams may now have up to 5 members instead of 4. So far, four teams have entered in the contest.

what good is it doing original music when some BRAINLESS IDJIT makes it ok to use old, non original music? Let's allow old art, old code and whatever, I say Music is as important to be created and possibly as tough as art. So NYAH. Change this rule before the dang HoV whoever holds it. :P Why should I join this HoV, I'm a musician and I can't overcome a lot of old music you can find on tracker archives. I work my ass off, they copy/paste some premade music. He who doesn't make original music, are in my eyes CHEATING, no matter the rules, it's an unfair advantage. If the rules won't change, I'll probably not join.

First of all, that has been the rule of HoV since it started, mainly because how many other trackers are out there? Anyone can slap together some fast and crappy tiles and CHRs, but how many people can do that for a MOD? So, imho, either do music for HoV, and maybe your team will get extra credit, or sit down, and be quiet :P.

Everytime the rules state music must be original, there's usually enough of a public outcrying for ripping to be allowed. This in turn leads to weiners begging for art ripping to be allowed as well.

The best policy in my opinion is to allow people to rip music if they wish, but to not give them any credit for music. The only reason I wouldn't outright disqualify them is because not many vergers can track or say that they can't get a tracker. I've never had a problem getting a tracker when I've looked for one though. =p

If you don't help our team, we probably will have to rip music. That's why we asked for your help.

By not showing up for the contest you're breaking your word. I just can't trust you if you don't show up tonight.

Just change the way it's evaluated. If the music was ripped, mark it out of 10. If it's original, mark it out of 20. Any tracker worth his weight in novelty sized wine glasses can track a song that is at least half as good as a ripped song.

This could be extended to other areas like art as well. It could be tweaked so that any team that ripped most of their stuff would get raped in competition; but if they worked hard, prodding most areas with their extreme creativity, but then blew it ripping music, they still just might get lucky.

The Verge community would put out better produce, no? It might even encourage a lot more people to show their meat in frenzied competitions, increasing the overall action in the Verge community with many, many sleepless HoV nights.

That's exactly how it worked out. In fact, that's exactly how it usually works out. ;)

Not all HoV's are based upon this one. Original music has been given extra points and I won't be quiet cause I disagree - I don't expect you to sit down and be quiet if you have an opinion.
