Hi, my name is mavurik. I was kind of happy I stumbled upon this site. I remember Verge back in the days where there was a black website with a picture of the creator's gf on it and then they broke up and he lost his motivation to continue Verge or something. Well, I don't know how many times I downloaded Verge and deleted it, thinking each time, I'm going to make an RPG. Well, that was in 5th or 6th grade. Now I'm in 10th and I've been planning a big Square-soft style RPG. What do I mean by that? Well, there won't be squaresoft graphics and music. I just mean I'll be creating the game in the same manner they do. First you create a theme, then story, then storyboard, character sketches, etc. I just wanted to know if anybody wanted to help me or join the team. I could do it alone, it would just take longer and I need the experience since I plan on making games as a career. The theme for this RPG is "Abyss of the mind..." meaning it will deal with the character's thoughts and interpretations of certain things in order to bring the player closer into the RPG. This RPG will be dramatic as well and my goal is to make somebody cry :D. I will be putting up a site for it soon in about a week so if you want to help, E-mail me at i2ed_Zero@yahoo.com and I'll tell you more. My aim is kokujinboi if you want to talk that way. Bye

Tip: If you want someone to cry when a person dies, don't make said person flash for a few seconds then disappear upon death.

I have no real comments. Except that 98% of Verge games never get done.

Companions the creator seeks, not corpses, not herds and believers. Fellow creators the creator seeks--those who write new values on new tablets. Companions the creator seeks, and fellow harvesters; for everything about him is ripe for the harvest.

I'm taking this very seriously, I don't expect it to be done for at least a year. If yuo want to join my development team and gain experience with creating video games then do so. But don't predict the way my game's going to go before you even learn about it. I can do it by myself, like I said. I just wanted to know if anyone wanted to help. It'd be nice to have a partner.

I think "Seiro" is looking for a few to work with, and judging from your post, he would fit right in with the stage of development that you are in. Look down the forum for a message titled "Will someone program my game" or something like that.

This is just my personal opinion, so feel free to ignore it in pursuit of your dream, but I don't care for "theme" games. It always seems to me that when a game has a theme, it limits itself to only matters pertaining to that theme, even to the extent of hurting the game as a whole. I didn't like the last three Final Fantasies because of their strict adherence to their respective themes. I just prefer that a game take a more global approach. The game can and should have a focus, but it shouldn't lose sight of the bigger picture. (FF8 for example. Seems to me that everything that happens is just to develop Squall and Rinoa's relationship. The game is effectively about nothing else.)

Now I don't know anything about you or your game, so maybe you've already thought of this. It's just that you used the "T" word, and that scares me sometimes. ;)

As for making people cry, there's an art to it. I hope to succeed in that endeavor myself. What I've learned from things that make me cry (which isn't much) is that it's not so much the thing itself, as how it is presented. And you must remember to bring the player along for the ride. To many games forget that there's a player attached to them, who should be involved.

Good luck, though. And have fun doing it.

"Gain experience with creating video games"?

Did you not notice the news page of this site? Dragon Warrior Legend is the project I'm working on...and the one I intend to finish.

And I am presently in no condition to join another dev team ;)

I wasn't talking to you... I just said anyone who helps could gain more experience. It's not like it hurts to gain more knowledge. SORRY.

Now now, calm down, no reason to get all bitter about each other. I know you're not starting a flame war, I'm just fanning the flames. It's clear you're both dedicated to your projects, just don't take other people as a sign of aggression. Chill.

yeah, well I hate people that go "you'll never do it" when it comes to things like this. And I never said anything about the dragon warrior rpg. I just said IF you help with my project you'll get some experience making games. How? Because you'll be working with different people and learning different methods of doing things. I wasn't insulting anybody and if you want to brag about yourself don't respond.

BTW, is there a verge chat? The link to Verge Source doesn't work. :(

And you need to get your facts straight, because I was not bragging(and that was a horrible thing to accuse me of, by the way). I'm not making my game to compete with anyone. I am making it for the simple reason that I want to make a Dragon Warrior game. And in no way did I attempt to start a flame war. Didn't you notice my first reply said "Mine Will." That was responding to Allan(who said that a majority of Verge games will never get finished), NOT you. But you went ahead and replied to me, then further tried to flame me for the previous reply I wrote. This gives others the image that we've got a flame war going on, and this is no one's fault but yours. And strangely enough, you said you weren't talking to me when it was clear that you responded to ME.

Ben McGraw's lovingly crafted this website from scratch for years.
It's a lot prettier this go around because of Jon Wofford.
