I had to wait until the day after I saw the movie to write the review. Why? Because I'm biased. I've been following the movie for two years, and I'm a huge fan of the people who made the movie. With that said, let's go to what I DIDN'T like.

First off, the lip syncing was off. Most of the time it was passable, and occasionally they moved too much or two little, reminding you that after all, they're not real actors.

Secondly, movements were occasionally exaggerated. You know, people moving their hands too much, or swaying too much... but I only really noticed this once, so I can't complain too much.

Thirdly, the movie suffered from a short length. Okay, two full hours isn't really a short length in this day and age, but it would have really helped to expand it by half an hour. The problem was this--the action scenes and dramatic scenes depended heavily on eachother. Thus, there needed to be an equal balance between the two, and this created plot problems. The plot is excellent, and as far as I can tell, there aren't any big plot holes, but the plot is never spelled out for you. I'm sure it'll take me a few days to figure everything out... especially the ending...

OKAY, now that that's done with, on to the good stuff.

I definitely had moments when I went, "Oh my goodness, that's real." As far as the graphics go, their characters models CAN'T be improved. I mean, they LOOK real. You could take any single render from the movie and convince someone that it's a photo. The problem was in the movement, but considering that it was done by hand rather than motion-capture, they did an excellent job.

Early reviews claimed that the dialog was a tad childish... I don't agree. I think it was quite well written, and while it may have suffered from the PG-13 rating ("Over here, you son of a !"), I never really had a problem with it.

The plot was great, though like I said, it needed to be longer. I won't discuss it here, of course. I found it to be very enjoyable, and I'm hoping that the novelization will be able to explain all the stuff I don't really get yet. Like the ending .

That characters were cool, if not a tad stereotypical. The funny guy looks like he's the funny guy. The evil guy looks like he's the evil guy. 'Nuff said.

Overall, I have to say that I really enjoyed the movie, and while it's not the best movie I've ever seen, I'd highly recommend it.

My rating : E / G
Or, for those who don't read hex,
14 / 16

Other comments : The CG! My goodness, the CG!

I am one of the lucky few that got to see FF *before* it actually came out (hehe, I work at a movie theater, suckas!)

First note, I was disappointed that it wasn't a *fantasy* movie, but rather sci-fi. I mean, sure, they still did a good job, but there are plenty of good sci-fi's around, and very few good fantasies. And I *know* Square could've made a fantasy that *wasn't* corny (*cough* Dungeons & Dragons *cough*)

The CG, as you all know, is frickin' amazing. Most of the time you can still tell it's CG (mostly due to the backgrounds) but on occasion there's a shot where you could swear on your life that you're looking at real-life footage. It's shocking, and the movie's worth seeing just for the CG.

The plot wasn't nearly as involved as I'd expected from Square. Of course, the movie's only 1:50 in length, so there's not a *lot* of time for character development, but hell, there's hardly any of the complex character histories that Square is famous for.

The alien bad guys are pretty cool, and when you finally find out the truth behind them, they're cooler. The human bad guy is kind of stereotypical and annoying, though.

Personally, I think that it was a good movie, but it could've been better. I'd've liked to see FF7 as a movie instead, though.

Rating: 4/5 stars

That is all.

In a sentence it wasn't really that bad, but it wasn't really that good. It was an overly dramatic movie with cookie-cutter action scenes.

The CG was amazing, although some of the movements did seem a little rough. I never knew they didn't use motion capture so I think they did an excellent job. And a couple scenes did look real.

The plot was ok, but not really all that engaging. It seemed like you were watching a FF video game and your party was collecting the 8 spirits located around the world. And the main enemy in the movie is extremely stereotypical and boring. The dialogue wasn't really that bad in most cases - just average, but that didn't stop the movie from having a few cheesy scenes.

Overall I'd say the movie was a disappointment if I was expecting a great movie, but since I don't really like FF and was unsure how Square would transition to the big screen, I reserved my judgement. I'm still glad I saw it.

My omni-discribing word for this film: eerie. Eerie because of the graphics. It's so real looking, yet you know that something is just off. Otherwise I found it enjoyable.

The storyline felt like you were playing a Square game, but otherwise I found it not the best. Nice to see Cid in there.

Overall, I'd give it 9/10, just because the story could have used work to make it more of a movie script and less of a game script. The visuals would make me go back and watch it tho.

Oh, and I couldn't imagine Steve Buscemi without his bug-eyes. It was weird hearing him to the pilot's
