Hello Verge boards. I posted on cless's boards a while back requesting some help on a verge type shockwave game.
Since then, I have finished a good portion of the code and I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. But we still have a long way to go, and we need all the help we can get. If anyone here thinks they would like to help out with graphics or story drop me a line at ben@retro3d.com.
Graphics: 32x32x24bit tiles. They will be jpeg compressed to keep file size (and download time) down. We are going with a classic fantasy/si-fi hybrid look. Some concept art has been drawn for refrence. Characters are also 32X32X24bit. 2 or 3 frame animations.
Animation: Flash cutscenes and Shockwave animated in game sequences. I will do most of this work... but I can always use help.
Story: We need another writer to help with story and dialog. We have a basic story started, it just needs more scenerios/dialog, etc.
If you just want to see the progress so far, you can go to http://www.retro3d.com/te/maptest.htm
Even if no one wants to help out, I though you might appreciate seeing what we are doing.
(I don't want this to be seen as spam (just... ummm information sharing, or maybe a cry for help LOL)... so please no flames ^_^... pretty please!)

First of all, for God's sake, don't use JPG compression...it's lossy and fugly for anything under 2' x 2'
Secondly, if I'm not mistaken, there is already a project entitled Insomnia, in case it made a difference to you...

Yeah, I know the problems with JPGS :(. There's not much I can do about it though unless I want to use a shared palette thoughout the whole app... (which, come to think of it ain't such a bad idea)...
In any case, I'm thinking of putting 2 versions up, a fugly one for the poor people still on dial-up, and a high bandwidth using much less compression and stereo sound.
The name "insomnia" isn't a final name either... It's just what we are calling it internally untill a name is decided on... we are tossing around a few now.
I just called it insomnia because I started the project one night when I couldn't sleep... I got a scrolling tile based... ummm... thingy to work in shockwave... and thus the project was born!

You can only use jpeg and "normal" compression. I'm not sure what the normal compression uses... but it really ups the file size...
Actually, JPEG isn't too awful just as long as I keep it over 6 or so... depending on the tile. Things like grass are allowed to be fuzzy.
