Alright, I finished my map thanks to the help from this board, and luckily that's the neatest way to bipass hi color maps I think, ever. Now, here's a question that's bugged me for a while. I've upgraded my system 3 times, twice AMD, once Pentium, from Voodoo, to Monster, and now back to Voodoo, from Monster Sound, to Sound Blaster Live! Platinum. Now, with all of these configurations, I still experience the same thing, and I wondered if anyone else had this. In Dos-based Verges, I get a flickering on the right, lower side of my screen, it's just random flickering, regardless of me having the voodoo card, or the Monster Fusion. Second, any dos-based verge will only play the equivalent of an Intro to mod music. Doesn't matter what format the music is, it'll play the first 4 seconds flawlessly, then stop. I've tried messing with the device setting, but since it's only Sound Blaster or GUS sound system, I have as close to Sound Blaster as you can get. ;p
My one thought on the cause of the sound and display problems was the fact that these are such advanced pieces of equipment (by dos-standards anyway), that all the drivers are purely windows-based, making any dos emulation very sketchy at best. That's my only guess, but I was hoping someone out there in the Verge community had a Voodoo 4+ or Sound Blaster Platinum to give me their thoughts on how to fix these problems, or drivers/patches/configurations to cure it. Thanks TREMENDOUSLY

You know there is a windows/directX based verge out now which has pretty much become the standard.

I have a voodoo3 (not a voodoo4, but close) and a SBLive, and DOS verge's always worked perfectly.
One thing I did notice when I upgraded to my SBLive, though, is that v1 sounds real funky when you set the mixrate to 44KHz. I'm not sure if that's any real help, but meh. :)
Also, there is v2.6, which is purely windows/directx based. You might have better luck with that.

v2.6 has hardly become the standard from what I've seen.
I see many people using v2k+j for its stability, a few using v2.6 for windows, and the majority of people sitting around, scratching their asses waiting for v2.7 to come out...

Sorry, didn't get to type much else in the header. I'm no expert at things, but I do know that the sound did not do just a 4 second intro to DOS verge, and other music and then stop. So, I did a little research and thinking back to when I noticed a difference, because I was able to play FF Reprise, and Dragon's Warrior Legend without an ounce of problem with the music stopping after 2 seconds.
So here is my finding, no document of Verge says this that I'm aware of, but regardless of your sound card's natural configuration, and regardless of type, make CERTAIN that your IRQ setting is either 5 or 7. My SB 16 Emulation (which is Sound Blaster Live!s DOS sound emulator), had an IRQ of 9 set to it. After changing this to 7, my music played flawlessly, and now works again. I will gladly walk anyone through how to cure this via email, or post, because believe me, it took all the fun out of mapediting. Thanks Speed Bump, because your response got me to realize that it had worked flawlessly a while ago, I almost thought it hadn't.

I ported my game from v2k+j to v2.6 because XM music works a lot better in v2.6. And so far, it's never crashed on me. It's been just as stable as v2k+j.
