Unforunately, there is no identifying information in the MOD itself, and also, modarchive has a blank author field for it. So, AFAIK, there's almost no way to track down it's author.
I've never actually liked this song all that much, but it's become something of a legend. You wouldn't even believe how many remixes of it have come out of the VERGE community at one point or another.

That some d00d named "Awesome" made Aurora. I haven't bothered to check it out, because I'm lazy. Then again, people told me he made "Aurora.xm" So there's a 50/50 chance he made the same Aurora.

Actually "Awesome" does have a mod called "aurora.xm" but its full name is "Aurora - Ballad for an Angel" which is a really well done piano ballad written for, I'm assuming from the comments within the song, his girlfriend who's name is Aurora.
