running verge / verge games doesnt work

whenever i try to run verge, or play any games that
i download from this site, it just dies right away
and spits out:

it does this with every game. i'm running windows 2000, i also tried it under win98.

well theres somthing about win 2000 that fucks verge up... I forgot why though... and if you tryed it in win98 on a native win2k PC that could also be the problem... maby...
