DarkAngel

My game is going to be pseudo-3D(will look like 3D, but of course it won't be). And it will have voice tracks(like in Castlevania:Symphony of the Night) on important dialogue. But for voice tracks, I need voices. If anyone out there thinks they can be a good voice actor for my game, please contact me. When I have some dialogue done, I will post it here and on my website. All you have to do is read the dialogue into a .wav(or whatever other audio format) file and send it to me. Thanx for reading.

Praetor

I think it's a cool idea and all, but what's with all of the sudden "I need voice actors" posts? Why must the Verge community move like a single mass of brainless people.

I've noticed that no sooner does one person/group declare that they're going to do something new and different than anything else in the Verge community, at least three other people/groups suddenly decide that that's what they want in THEIR game.

C'mon! Be original! Stop jumping on bandwagons! Mimicry destroys coolness. Every game that has voice-overs detracts from the coolness of every other game with it.

THis mimicry does not just apply to voice actors, it applies to everything. I used to love the FFVI battle system, but it's been copied and lamified so many times that I now find it distasteful.

Don't get me wrong, there are certain aspects of RPGs that have been repeated simply because they work well, but who wants to play three different games where the only difference between them is that they have different names for the sprites, moves, spells, etc. and a slightly-to-moderately different plotline.

Anyway, if you want voice acting, by all means go for it. But I wish that people would just stop bandwagoning.

This is the only post about voice acting that I've seen other than mine, which was on cless's. Where else were there voice acting posts?
I think you brash if you are for to claim mimicry on the second requester of VA. But you're praetor, whom I admire, so you must have seen more. Although I don't think darkangel was even around until a month or two ago (Am I wrong? If so sorry).
Honestly, I was actually glad that I wasn't alone in loving VA. Although VA is a pretty safe zone anyway. Kind of like backround sounds. I think you could get sick of a combat system quicker.
I haven't seen Re-used concepts be bashed as unanamously until recently. But, there's a recent upshot in creativity. Maybe that's why...
Mimicry is often mistaken for when you create an RPG with you're original desired feautures (whether verge has overused and sickened of them or not) your first blow through. And the desired features don't change without years of playing. It would be hard to attempt to float the games on the teaspoon of tide that is verge. It's more likley it's for their first desire they come here for, and it's usually like this: To make an RPG of their own that they can be proud of, and doesn't feel archaic. After sampling a better Idea, The alternative seems archaic, and shamefull. Kind of like how so many non-FF engines abounding have spoiled you to the original. I was spoiled to mute games by bomberman, and would feel wrong leaving out voice. Prolly something similar with darkangel. I can't detect a drastic change in the "trends" of verge game since it began. I know where you're coming from. Playing similar RPGs always makes me so melodramatic. It's a struggle not to hate the second.

I plan on a non RPG after kelpie.

I'm dreaming of a non-RPG for after kelpie (KEEP IN MIND, ONLY AFTER KELPIE), where you play an aristocrat, who must confront you're reluctant admiration's lucid dreams come live via curse (she was tired of sociatal limits (especially the main character's faults), and sold her soul to a dream creature in the woods), with a pistol, in a recreation of 1800. The art style is surreallism (partly because dreams are surreal, partly because I love surreallism more than my pets, and partly because Historical accuracy is so bloody hard) with a smash TVesque engine (the NUM keys shoot, the UDL&R keys walk), and no BGmusic. You'll insert a CD that will play when a dream startles you. They will startle you by popping through walls, falling on you, and opening closed doors etc. on a random timer up to three different ways per room. The game will be a, disguised version of the faithfull collecting keys to unlock doors thing, with the action of an overhead shooter (I also plan to have the keys wander). the game happens in a confined zone (A bordered off town. okay, okay, 1 cliche'. Okay okay, there's also a forest with a river. 2 Cliche's, ARE YOU HAPPY? ;_;). I also want 1 run to take about 2/3 o' an hour, and have all enemies locations randomized. But It's only for when kelpie is completley finished. What does everyone think?

Yeah, It's a pipedream. I thought it up in math, and have never discussed it before. It has a cool plot too, because my math tacher's lenient. But It's a pipedream that needs a concept trimming.

I always wondered who was going to do the same thing I was. I have friends doing voices for my game as well. I originally had the idea to make it more like Lunar and Lunar 2 where certain scenes would be spoken by myself and my actors, but we narrowed it down (mainly due to size of game and files), to battle taunts/spellcasting/skilluse.

I'll warn you though too, I originally narrated my entire introduction of a somewhat historical background to the world, but 2 - 3 minutes worth of dialogue (speed-reading 101 when you see my intro. :p) turned out to be 50 megs. Then, reducing sound quality and so forth, down to V1 usable .WAV's, only took it to 7 megs. Still, 7 megs for 1 small intro won't be doable for a free internet demo, especially when the rest of the game is done. So that's just a warning from a fellow voice-user in game design, either keep to short, 10 second or less .WAV's, or reduce it to text.

As for acting, if you'd like, I do a mean villain with an empty glass and reverberation effect. :p

Good luck with your game!

You might want to consider something... And that is... how many people rant and rave about what they're going to do and actually produce something? I don't know about you, but even if 300 people type about putting voice acting in their game, I've yet to play a demo that has it. And no Final Fantasy's featured voice acting, neither has Chrono Trigger or Chrono Cross, Front Missions, Xenogears, or any other Square game that I've played lately. Truth is, every game with voice acting will be different because of who does the acting, and how it's applied. So before you "rant", just remember that duplicating a Final Fantasy battle sequence is about the only bandwagon that's ever been proven in the Verge Community with 2 other exceptions, VSPs, or Music. 3 things that are bandwagoned for an entire community of 50 or so members isn't so bad. ^_^

It's a lot prettier this go around because of Jon Wofford.
