I'm playing Planescape: Torment, which you may or may not of heard of, but anyways, one of the characters in my party is a floating skull. One of my other characters asked him where his body went, and he says "Me? I'm the head of Vecna." Is Vecna someone other than well... Vecna? (There's no one by that name mentioned anywhere else in the game.)

In D&D, Vecna is an arch-lich. His hand and eye came off in a battle with his lieutenant, and are super-powerful artifacts, known to require you to be missing the body part in question in order to use them.
A while back, somebody sent the Knights of the Dinner Table comic an anecdote about his campaign, and the two mutually hostile player groups that played in it.
One group came up with an idea to screw with the other group by setting about rumours of the Head of Vecna, (which was, of course, a fake) and, long story short, the other party ended up beating the crud out of each other for the right to behead themselves, with two managing to succeed...
Anyhoo... According to some FAQ I read a while back, vecna named himself with *no idea* that the name was already so infamous. And in his case, the 'v' is intentionally lowercase. :)
