My personal favorite is ModPlug. It plays mods, its, sm3, xm, and a million more mod-types.

It will play songs that won;t work in VERGE, however. You'll still need to test them.

Mainly because WinAmp uses MikMod to play mods. (did you know that?)

I suppose this is moot as long as v2.6 is using MIDAS, but that won't last, so it'll be a good indicator of how it'll sound in the engine. ^_^
