I've been using Verge2.6 for a while now(with no weird bugs/problems), and even made a demo with it(another to come soon). But there's still something I could never understand. Why can't you change the speed of the player like in the previous versions?

You can. I do. Just set the Entity.Speed[Chr]=4;

4 is the default entity speed, so setting entity.speed to 4 is a useless line of code that will keep the speed the same.. If you try lowering it or raising it, there is no effect(but there should be). Try this out yourself, and you'll see. I've been using V2.6 for a long time, so I've tried everything with entities.
