Hey, I know this is no time to ask a question like this as verge looks like its going through a rough patch but for a newbie such as me would it be best to learn to make games in O.H.R.RPG.CE or VERGE? My mates seem to think O.H.R, But VERGE seems to attract me...im stuck in the middle so anyone who seems to care whether i stay or not please help.

Actually, It's the perfect time to ask. Right now, the oldbies are having a rough transition period in their lives, where most of them that grew up with verge now are older now and don't have enough time to use it. Add to that the fact that verge is evolving beyond that which they were first attracted to in the first place, and they have less and less reason to stick with it. But I digress.
Right now, there are two sides to the verge coin. If you want to get started with verge, you will want to use the new python version, because the old version will no longer be maintained or supported. Unfortunatly, the python version isn't totally finished yet. However, if you wish to try it out, the link is on the main page somewhere in the news. This version will isn't the most stable, but it'll be more useful as far as seeing what verge is like now. Also, don't hesistate to ask questions about programming and such on these boards. We need more people being active.

I'd hate to think that we're making people feel like they shouldn't post anything right now. Your question is perfectly valid, and anybody who were to flame you for asking it would get laughed at and stuff. ^_~
The choice is yours to make, I guess. But, from what little I know of OHRRPGCE, it hasn't been updated in quite some time, and the editor won't let you import images. The former might be bearable if the engine is nicely rounded out, but the latter sounds like a nasty oversight to me. (correct me if I'm wrong)
In my estimation, you'd be better off using an engine that's still actively being worked on. (Sphere is another one you might want to take a peek at www.aegisknight.org) Both Sphere and v2 (and up) are technologically capable of more, and Sphere is much more polished as a whole.
My personal opinion is that v2 is depreciated and overcomplicated. Many disagree with that assessment, though, so I won't discount it as a viable engine. But v2.7 isn't finished yet, so you might not want to wait around for me to finish. :) Additionally, you might want to take a look at v1 or Sphere. The former is very limiting comparitively, but 'small' and easy to use. Sphere's flexibility is arguably on par with v2, (and almost v2.7 :D) however it's much easier to feel 'lost' in it, I've found.
So... uhm... disregard everything I've said because I'm the most biased person in the universe regarding this matter. ^_^

It depends. OHR is practically complete. It has it's own unique scripting language, Hamsterspeak, a builtin FF-style battle system, a stable community, a whole lot of FAQs and documentation (well, the last time I really checked), and a all-in-one game editor. Unfornuately, its inability of importing images and the BAM music format are a real turnoff in my own opinion.
V2 is also complete, but when you think about it, you got to code your own game system, which will take weeks, if not months, to perfect. There's also a slew of annoying (but not major) quirks abundant in later versions. Also, there's not a really strong (but it's a loyal) community and the documentation just states the really basic. However, it plays mods/s3ms/xms and once you've mastered it, it's hard to find something easier with just as much customizability and straightforwardness.
Personally, if you got the time to waste, I would just try tackling Verge. However, if you are looking for something that's either easy or not time-consuming, I would use OHR.
