(add a space after URL and hit enter to view it cause geocities is retarded.)
Whats wrong with it? why does it not show up when I try to import it? arg!
yeah i know hot pink isnt verge's transparent color and yeah i know it doesnt fit into 16x16 tiles very effeciently. Im just trying to get it to work, then ill make it spiff.

v2.7 uses the PNG alpha channel for transparency information.
I've never used photoshop, so I can't tell you how to add an alpha channel to the image, but you've probably used them before, if you've ever used PS's layers. (which most people do for CG, as I understand it)

Ulver: Make sure your tileset does not have a "background" layer, and use the Eraser tool or Color Range Selection + Delete to remove all color from the pixels that should be transparent. (The Photoshop checkered grid should be visible where ever it is transparent) Make sure to save your tileset as a PSD file so that you can retain this data, and when you are ready to create a copy that VERGE can use, select "Save for Web" from the File menu and select type as "PNG-24" and "Transparency" as yes, then save as a PNG. That leads into the next problem with PS&WME, the hang on importing such PNGs, which Speed is helping me with. :)

P.S. You could also use ImageReady (which comes with Photoshop5) since it natively edits Alpha-enabled PNGs, although I have not actually tried it yet, since Photoshop is better overall.

sigh. black worked so well. :o\ its a color no one should use. hmm. thanks for the walkthru on that whole saving for web w/ trasparency.... um, it worked for me though. I got it into WME no problem. transparency and all. a question for you, since you seem to be smart about photoshop:
I just upgraded to 6.0 and when I open up a graphic to mess with its tinted red. i have to adjust the color levels and guess at things to get it to look normal. any ideas how to fix this? colors showed up fine in the save to web window though. its weird.

I have 5.5, which might be the source of my troubles.
The only thing I can think of that would cause that is the Quick Mask feature. Right below the Foreground/Background color boxes on the toolbar there are two buttons, each depicting a filled box with a circular selection. The one on the right is Quick Mask Mode and the one on the left is Standard Mode. In quick mask mode, you can 'draw' selections, and they appear as a red tint. Maybe 6.0 defaults to Quick Mask mode. Make sure the Standard Mode button is the one that's selected.

ah i figured out the problem. Under the "proof setup" toolbar it was set to "working CMYK". whole bunch of choices. "Windows RGB" setting was still red but "Monitor RGB" seemed to fix it. i dont get the whole purpose to those settings but whatever. my tree is green again so im happy.
tSB: would it be hard to make it so that you can CNTRL-drag to copy and paste groups of tiles on layers other than 1? my trees are made of many tiles and building them up tile by tile is annoying. copy & paste on all layers would be a nice feature :oP

control + left drag should copy tiles from whatever the current layer is. Similarly, right clicking should paste to the active layer.
control + right drag is probably what you're after. It copies tiles from all layers. Right clicking will then paste. I've personally used this to put some tree tiles (which spanned over 4 layers) all over a map with trivial ease.

Those settings are for very advanced graphics work where you need absolute control over the colorspace that Photoshop works in. Computers and televisions use RGB (Red,Green,Blue), but printers use CMYK (Cyan,Magenta,Yellow,Black) which is a somewhat more precise, yet different colorspace. There are others as well, the differences are almost impossible to see under most circumstances, but its stuff like that that gives PS its $580 price tag.
I actually had an idea about grouped tiles as well, but my idea was to allow the deffinition of an "objects" pallete, which would be stored in a file separate from the VSP, such as "tiles.vsp" and "tiles.obj", and this OBJ file would contain many individual 'objects', each of which would be made up of many tiles from the VSP. This would allow you to place "tree" objects or anything else that you define on any layer easily. Keeping it separate from the VSP would allow the engine to ignore it, while WinMapEd could make use of it.
