First come to www.vergesource.com. We reply more there.
You need to go to www.textpad.com, and grab the Textpad program--it's a great text editor for doing stuff like, I dunno, Verge programming. You can grab a syntax file for it from www.vergesource.com in the Miscellaneous Downloads.
Next. Immediately read the tutorials at www.cplusplus.com. Those will teach you the basics of programming in C, and thus in Verge C. Avoid the confusing crap about pointers--you won't need that, and Verge C doesn't use Objects either.
Now. Come to the Vergesource, read the Verge-FAQ. Then goto the Articles section, and skim over all seven tutorials for V2 by a neat guy named Aen--these cover all important aspects of V2 operation.
Now you need a version of Verge. Go to the front news page here, and click Old News. Then scroll down and download Verge 2.62 beta. Also, download the utilities in the V2 Engine Files Download section.
Aen's tutorials will show you how to set up Verge, but if you want more of a walkthrough, you can read one of the V2 Howto Walkthrough articles in the Articles at Vergesource (the V2 Newbie Guide by Thrasher and Hatchet is great), although just know that Winv2 works a bit differently than the DOS V2's. In most things though it's nearly identical.
Anyway. That's basically it:
1. Get textpad.
2. Learn a bit of C.
3. Learn how to set up Verge.
4. Read a bit about how Verge works.
5. Run through a sample walkthrough if you like.
6. Enjoy (hopefully)!
If you have more questions or run into a problem (you most likely will at first) just ask on the Vergesource boards.
It is not wrong to not understand, for we are all ignorant, but neither is understanding pointless.
