Howdy. I'm testing different versions of DOS V2 for Omni (you can see what's going on over on the general board), and I'm having some problems with V2.5. It doesn't seem to recognize negative numbers. When I'm compiling, if it comes across something like "openingentity[box] = -1;", it says "Unknown token ". I fixed it by creating a new var (negativeone) and setting it equal to 0-1, replacing and recompiling. Is there another way?

(-1), or something to that extent. Haven't tried it though.

Blah.

Sorry, 'nother quick question. I just got everything to compile with V2kj (or is it V2jk?), but when I run verge.exe nothing happens. I checked the log file and it's not reporting any errors, and my autoexec function just says map("test.map"). What's going on?

it's Verge2kj, or 2k+j. The plus sign isn't necessary, but anyway...

Remember, you must have an autoexec function in system.vc (I dunno whether you're using the startmap in Winv2 or not, but if you are, it doesn't work under V2kj).

I dunno why it doesn't work. I've used v2kj myself, and as log as you have an autostart event in test.map when you switch to it, I see no reason why it doesn't work. You are in locolor mode, right? You must call PalatteMorph, and I'd always call Render and Showpage in the autostart function too just to be safe. All cameratracking and entity and player setup functions should also be called in the autostart event. Do you have any idea what's wrong?

I have no clue. All of the code I have for BOB works under WinV2, which is (as I understand) just a direct port of V2kj to Windows. However, when I try to start the program, it does all the normal verge startup stuff (sound engine, joystick detection, etc.), and then just exits without an error message and without an error logged in verge.txt. I have an autoexec function that maps to test.map, and the autoexec for test.map is PaletteMorph, followed by some entityspawns and the Init functions for the battle system. Theoretically it should be working just fine. What are the differences between V2kj and WinV2? And could this have something to do with the fact that I'm running Win2k? I don't know.

Sorry, but just like me, if you run Win2k or XP, then no matter what you do, v2kj and any DOS v2 won't run on your machine. Even if it does compile, XP and 2k don't support the DOS v2kj for some reason. What you need to do, is go to www.verge-net.com, and look in their Verge2 Engine Downloads for V2.6 r2, which is basically a port of v2kj to Windows, and runs pretty well under XP and 2k. You must use your v2kj maped and vcc with V2.6; in fact it is just a port of v2kj to Windows.

Also, no, Winv2 is a port of V2.5 pre-vk2j to Windows. Vecna said in the readme he hated how some stuff was done in v2kj, like hicolor, and so he left it out. That's why many v2kj games don't run under Winv2 and vice versa without some fixing.
