Every time I try to run it in hicolor it says: unable to set hicolor [the resolution im using], I've tried it with every resolution my system supports. I even tried it with just a blank map. Anyone know what to do?

Your dos4gw file could be corrupted. You could try redownloading and reinstalling it, but I'm not sure that will solve it.
Do you happen to use win2k or WinME?
In that case, you could try pure dos.

You probably need SciTech Display doctor. You can get it at http://www.scitechsoft.com/

I really, really doubt he has a corrupted copy of dos4gw. The problem is definately with VESA 2. Also, as far as I know win2k doesn't have a pure DOS mode and WinME is just an updated version of Windows 95/98.

When I run verge it says Vesa 2.0 support available,
and my dos4gw isnt corrupt, it ran fine with v2k beta 6
but hicolor still wont work. Thanks for trying to help me though.

Just to say WinME does not have true dos either but V2k+j works fine on it as long as you have DOS4GW. However none of the other verge versions will work what so ever. And also V2k+j works without VESA support... At least on my Computer anyway...

Have you tried not specifying a resolution in user.cfg? You can always change the res in autoexec(). Some comps won't open verge in some resolutions, but will let verge change to them once running.
Hope that helps, (ahhhh... so long since I've said that here.)

Without VESA it only works with Mode13h and ModeX.

When I run it, though, it automatically sets the resolution to 320x200. It then gives me the same old error message. Thanks anyway.

Well, you can't FORCE Mode13h, ModeX in v2k; it will only turn on when it has no options left. Anyway, for your information...
ModeQ = 256x256
Mode13h = 320x200
ModeX = 320x240
