MapEd ate my map! Or, rather, it corrupted it... or something. Here's what happened.

Using the newest version of Maped V2 (the one that comes with WinV2), I began making a MAP and VSP.

At one point, I added 10 blank tiles to the VSP, but when returning to the map, I noticed that several of the tiles I had placed previously had blanked out.

I hit Ctrl, but both of the tiles in question (the last two prior to the 10 I just added) seemed fine. However, if I tried to click on them, or copy them to the clipboard, they'd just come up blank.

Figuring that my Windows ME had screwed up, or that MapEd screwed up (which I've almost come to EXPECT now), I saved and quit (which, in retrospect, was a REALLY dumb thing to do).

Upon quitting, the screen blanked for 10 seconds, then came up with the error "Stack overflow!"

And now, EVERY TIME I try to load my map into ANY version of MapEd, the screen will immediately blank for 10 seconds, then give me a "Stack overflow!" error, whether I try loading within MapEd itself or on the command line.

And I checked: it's not the VSP, it's the MAP.

So vecna, I sent the MAP and VSP to you -- if you have a chance, and can try to save my map, I'd really appreciate it. (:

Also, does anyone know if there's a way to turn off the screensaver in MapEd? My computer is rather fast, and the screensaver pops up after 5-10 seconds of idle time, which is REALLY annoying if I'm trying to examine my map. (:

Thanks -- and if anyone OTHER than vecna happens to know a way to save my map, please let me know! (:

Any tile above 127 screws up. I think the map formats are the same as original V2, so I just do maps with that.

Nope -- my tiles were still in the double-digits, I believe.

But now that I know that, perhaps it's time for me, too, to use the original V2 MapEd -- though that had its own share of problems as well (such as always exiting with an error the second time you saved, or erasing tiles randomly whenever you added a new layer!).

SOMEBODY RELEASE A NEW VERSION OF MAPED, PLEASE!! (:

There were 2 releases of Verge2.0, MapEd2.0, and vcc. (I think, or at least there were two downloads when I first showed up). I've experienced that same problem with the one of them, but the other seems to work fine.
This is the one that works for me:

This one does not:

If you want to try/test them out.

WinMaped is pretty good, but what really sucks about it is that it doesn't have a built-in tile editor. So I usually stick with the DOS one. But if you want a good alternative, you might wanna try it... Don't know if it'll help your situation though.

I've tried WinMapEd, but I seem to be missing a DLL file somewhere...

libpng.dll and zlib.dll are included with the Verge2.6 download. I have no idea why it wasn't distributed with the WinMaped zipfile...
