I've read a couple posts about VO. To my understanding it was discontinued years ago.. is someone picking it back up? The codebase was pretty nearly complete (not the game, mind you, just the codebase.)

I dunno. Maybe I'm just crazy. :)

It was supposedly continued at one point... some of us even donated hefty sums of money towards it (hefty compared to the contents of my wallet, anyway). Haven't heard anything in a long time now, though...

Mythril

It has been continued and discontinued and continued and discontinued, etc. But if I'm not mistaken, I think they may be working on it while/after working on Verge3!

Verge Online is still being worked on.

After so many times of it being "discontinued" and "cancelled", there's no way we'd drop it now. Surprisingly, every time Verge Online has been declared dead, or cancelled, or whatever, it's been by persons who are not involved with the project.

And hey, I've still got the Amazon donate thing on the left there, you can donate more money if you want. :-)

All the work for the past few months has been server work, and therefore not feature enhancements but more bug fixing and some reworking on the structure of the server programs.

When V3 is completed, certain technologies will be incorporated into the VO client.

The existing program has plenty of features already completed, including emoticons (which kick serious ass). No NPCs or monsters yet, but the basic skeleton to allow for them to exist in the world is written.

Unless vecna says Verge Online is cancelled, it's not, regardless of what anyone says. It's a massive project and companies which actually have financial backings (beyond the donations of a few generous souls) generally make these types of games. A lot of the cost normally associated with running game servers is offset because of the company I work for and the discounts I can get on hosting, but it's still not cheap.

Just on a side note, for those that did donate money, because things worked out differently than planned, I was not able to release the information that I expected to. However, for those still interested, feel free to e-mail me privately at loretian@verge-rpg.com to discuss that or anything else (like how addicting Morrowind is).

It's a lot prettier this go around because of Jon Wofford.
