Well whoever is doing Python YIM me at cyberdude934, or AIM me at cyberdude93411, or MSN me at cyberdude934.

I decided I will call the editor I will do for verge-python VIDE. which stands for
Verge Integrated Development Environment
since it seems the new verge will be mostly windows anyway.

I am willing to program any EDITOR for the new VERGE, but I am not skilled enough to partake in the dev of the actuial compiler (I wish I was).

So far, I have 2 main programming utilities. Delphi4 and DB. DB just got an update which will allow me to make editors in fast DirectX7, yet fully integrate with VIDE, which is made in Windows. Also, I can compile VIDE and the VERGE compilers and all other necessiary files into one EXE. Furthermore, I have the ability to compress files, or entire directories into one compressed file, and I am pretty sure I can compile a VERGE game itself into a single EXE.

Though if VERGE-Python is comming out soon, I won't bother adding those features in VEW2.X.

Well I'll be here for a week or two, then be gone for about 2 weeks after that. Then I'll be here for the rest of the summer, than for the entire school year (and i'm homeschooled). So I'll have oodles of time to make VIDE the best thing ever to hit verge :). And i'll even slap the name of whoever wrote the compiler on VIDE, and not put my name on it at all. Well, now that I got myself all excited, I must sit and wait for that email or IM...

this isn't connected to the parent post, I just didn't want to do 2 seperate posts side by side. Anyway, as I was saying, does anyone know where I can get a COMPLETE Tileset and chars? I have many ideas for a good game, and I can program it, I just can't draw worth anything.

I'll explain the setting of the game:
All the characters are half the height of the
standard VERGE2 character sizes.
The game should be cartoony-fantasy style, but
kindof serious at the same time.
There are towns (buildings made out of stone or
wood), ocean-side views (scenes where you have
sunset view, with animated water), forests.
The game is more of RolePlaying game, not a
HackNSlash, or FindThisAndThat, or RandomBattle.
The game can be played anyway you like, as in
you could play it 5 times, and get a totally
different story. This isn't really hard to
program actuially, just uses LOTS of triggers
and AI. There are no enemies, but theres a LOT
of people in the game (i'd say like 30 different
charsets for people).

Also, I want the entire game to be on the same map. Is that possible speed and size-wise in VERGE2? Infact, even when you go "inside" a building, the script will just remove the layer reserved for the roofs. If not, I can make the maps seperate.

Oh, and the main character is about age 17 i'd say. He has black hair, which is spiky. And he wears blackish clothes, and he has a gold neclace. And he has dark green eyes.

Well I doubt anyone will contribute, and I'll be forced to the graphics I do (which a 3rd grader could probibally do better at). Even if one person does only 1 or 2 characters, I would be really greatful, and put your name on the credits.

If I get enough support to make this game possible, I hope to make it one of the best (and most origional) games out.

Well let me know.

note: I will have enough time to work on VIDE and this, as VIDE isn't that hard to make (believe it or not!).

What is the ultimate purpose of having everything on one map? If you're talking removing roofs of buildings when you go in, that's not too hard. Just put the roofs on a separate layer and use setrstring() to remove that layer... you don't even have to lose the outside!

But really, you can emulate a one-map thing with many maps with the following steps.

First, when you map switch, don't have any nifty effects like fades. This way it's an instant cut. It's like moving to a new area in Zelda, but without the screen scroll thingy (which you *can* emulate, even across two entirely separate maps.)

Also, don't specify a music file in MapEd for *any* maps connected as such. Instead, use a flag to start up a music file on the *first* map, then activate the flag so you don't restart the music every time you reenter that area. The music will continue even through map switches if you do this.

As far as tiles go, have you considered doing really simple stuff? Not all tiles have to be *textures* per say. Grass could be solid green, and then you do darker green spots for shadows of buildings, trees, and crap like that. Two colors, nice grass. Same goes for walls, floors, objects, etc. Try it.

Characters can be a pain if you don't have a mind for it. But I think there are a few people on the boards that are kinda idle, not involved in a project. Maybe someone would be willing to throw together a few CHRs. (I'd offer, but I can't draw CHRs either :)

That is all.

yeah, I'll probibally end up doing that at first, then finding people to re-draw tiles later. I can do that, I simply cannot make characters though. I almost made one one time, but when I did the side, it just got scary...
