I'm having some trouble getting sound files to work right for my game. I create the sound files in Modtracker by arranging bits and pieces of other wave files in the way I want, and then choosing to "Save as wave" from the file menu. I choose 8-bit mono and turn off things like "normalize" and other optional stuff. When the file plays in the game, it sounds much lower than it does in anything else, and at a slower speed. Playing the sound file in any other program, it sounds normal. How do I make sure the sound file will work right?
The version I am using is the DOS one that has high-color support, and uses the old VC scripting languages. Please don't ask me to use a newer version that may be more friendly to different kinds of wave files as a solution. I respect Python but it took me about 5 years to get where I am with VC, and it would take me just as long to learn Python.
Thanks.

Try using WinV2, minus the Highcolor its nearly completely compatible with V2.5 (I think v2kj counts too). Of course, as for the sound dilemna, you may need to speed them up. Literally. Also, have you tried used the CoolSound beta on the Vergesource files database? It works great for me.

I don't think I can use the windows version. I need to be able to run it off a zip disk, and Windows programs tend to require the use of .dll files. The lack of hi-color is also a problem because most of my graphics functions involve using some kind of smooth transition from one color to another. I make VERY heavy use of RGB() in my code, and about 80% of my PCX images are not in the verge palette.
I have not heard of CoolSound, so I will take a look. Thanks for the help.

CoolSound is actually my mistaken name for CoolEdit. You can get it in the Utility section of the Files at www.vergesource.com. Works great.
Also, WinV2 requires no special dll files and is very compact and mobile, but anyway, you seem to be doing fine with V2kj.
