im confused.. is the verge for communists making fun of sphere, or a linux port? ^_^ btw, if it is a linux port, isnt it just as easy to wine it ? beh, not in a good mood... i am forced to aol since Athome (AT&T) has yet to reconnect me (arggg!). Oh well, peax

It's a linux port.
Just a little while ago, tatsumi accused people using linux desktop machines of being communists. (http://vergesource.com/boards/general/view/756/) I'm just poking fun. :)

All I have to say is hats off to you! Will it be a port of V2.7 or a verge using VC? either or would be great, although I would prefer VC ^_~. If vec ever releases the winv2 code, I might look into porting that. How hard is it porting to linux?

First, this doesn't work right for me. If you know your way around the OS, the problem is that SDL_Init() crashes when the SDL_INIT_TIMER flag is specified. Other than that, it should work just fine. The main reason I'm releasing this now is so that anybody who knows their way around linux and SDL can pick it up, and maybe polish it up.
It will also compile in windows, but you require SDL, zlib, and libpng. Really, though, there's not much of a reason for you to use this version instead of revision 3, though it may be more stable. It hasn't crashed on me, but I'm on win2k, so it may be very unstable under win9x.
Lastly, this has no sound support whatsoever. I'll get to that. Honest.

I'd rather not see WinV2 spawn so many different versions like WinV2+j, WinV2.6, etc... ;)
