I was big on verge when it first came out, and loved ace, made some great .chr's but my programming friend found verge 1 to be to sub par, so we dropped it, we tried again with verge 2, but both of us gave that up quickly. now he's comfortable with verge 26 windows so I'm willing to try again, but I just can't get myself to make .chr's without the ease and perfection of ACE. so my question is to all you .chr creators..... are any of you making some sort of verge 2 ace, and if not, what program do you use to make .chr's?

Hmm, I have Heard of ACE, I am looking for it now today. Umm people now use either RANES CHReDIT (CHREDIT 2.(blah), there is a new one called
CHReDIT 3.5 or something.. capable of 16, and 8 bit CHRs.

My first experience with verge was ace. I liked Chr making, so I joined. I love ace. Ace was quite good, but V1 chars lack the flexibility (size&animation) of v2 chars. I use the one availale here for v2 (I think it's rane's) because it has all the same options as ace, except for the non-square shape copy. It has everything I nedd to draw them the way I want also (now with size&animation changes, so it's a beautifull thing. I also think There's something that converts v1 chars to v2, so you could just do that. goodgood.

As was already stated, you can use Rane's CHR editor. (it's here on v-rpg)

If you want, you can still use ACE, then use chrconv to convert the v1 chrs it outputs to v2 chrs. You'd be limited to all the things that v1 CHRs are limited to, but you can use ACE. :)

Just be careful to keep a copy of the v1 chrs, so you can reload them up in ACE. ^_^

That's what I do. I use ACE and convert them over, since my chars (so far) can get by in the v1 format. And if you're gonna do that, saving the chrs as pcxs is a good idea, that way ACE can still reload them.
