You'd think that this site would be the most popular site. If more files were submitted here (and put on the site), this site would be much more popular. I'm not trying to flame, just speaking my thoughts.

I think the main thing that was special about Verge Source was their message boards...yep...they had great message boards.

And I agree with you, if this site's message boards were upgraded and people submitted as many files, articles, and toturials it could be just as popular if not better. When the next version of VERGE is released I'll make it a priority for myself to upload some standard tile sets for people to use, code, and articles I wrote. But that's all I can do, if a site wants to be neglected (which this site kind of is) then people will continue to miss Verge Source.

Within a few days I will set up a Verge related message board on my site.

I've downloaded the source code of Verge 2.6 and I'm going to work on it, fix the most vital bugs. By the time I've set up the message board, I will give you guys the url or something in case you like visiting it...

What sort of bugs are you fixing, and are you adding any new things?

Keep us posted on your progress on this! Auroraborealisis and I are creating our game in V2.6 and we'd love a few upgrades.

That is all.

I liked the Verge Source too, but since it's gone, we have a couple options. Build a new site or revamp this one (which I think is a better idea since it's already sort of a second home to the verge community.) Personally, I think it's kind of silly having two sites that follow the same lines. Here's what I think could help:

1. We sould make use of the posted files on what is left of the verge source and transfer them to this site. (I'd do this myself, but it should be done by someone with DSL.)

2. Some sort of feature sould be added so that people can submit news (censored of course). This also means that updates will have to be more frequent.

3. We need a submit links option. The link have not been updated in the last six months.

4. Just a small one, but could you make an option to change your password. I can never remember stuff like kski24232.

Now a lot of this falls on the site addministrators, and I am willing to help out in any way I can. So lets get the ball rolling.

The Verge Source was not a community. VERGE is the community. The Verge Source was just a message board and a file repository-- a great one.

The Verge Source actually *hosted* files. This site to the best of my knowledge only hosts links to files, which then need to be hosted on another site, and who knows how long those links are valid.

PLUS, The Verge Source not only had better boards, but they were overall moderated better.

The Verge Source had more frequent news updates and activity in general. In other words, they had more admins willing to work for the community there. The staff submitted articles and code effects once in a while, and many of them were always active on IRC.

Not that I'm saying anything bad about this site - I'm just explaining 'what was so special about TheVergeSource'.

That answer your question?

Ben McGraw's lovingly crafted this website from scratch for years.
It's a lot prettier this go around because of Jon Wofford.
