i cant even get INTO using verge! ive tried several times over a period of time, but every time, even the tutorials don't help! where are the .pak files?! what do i put in the starting map selection command in the .cfg?! what the hell do i do with the font shit!?!! HELP!!!!!!!

You must be missing the MakeGame.exe file. When you run this, it makes the game for you. Are you sure it didn't come with the zipfile?

Ummm. . . last time I checked, this WAS a help board, guys. As asinine as you find some of the questions, it wouldn't hurt to keep that in mind. Now, Cassiopeia (I know I mangled that; so sue me), if you wouldn't mind being a little bit more specific and ::ahem:: civil with your questions, you might get some help. Here's some starting tips:

0) (I number this zero because it's THE MOST IMPORTANT THING OF ALL (I even put it in all caps to accentuate that)) Read aen's tutorials!!!!! I've read through those things several times, and believe me, if you can't get Verge after working through those, you may be beyond help. This isn't going to be easy, so take your time and just read them.
1) Unzip your zip file into one directory (just making sure ^_^).
2) Start a new file in Notepad (or any other text editor, I prefer TextPad myself, though I don't have it anymore. . . but I digress), and then read the part of aen's tutorial on the USER.CFG file. USER.CFG isn't really hard to handle, mostly it's just the option you want to have followed by a space and the option itself, like so:

xres 640
yres 480
sound_device 0

This USER.CFG will make your game run in 640x480 and auto-detect your sound hardware. Not too hard, huh? You can read more on USER.CFG in (you guessed it) aen's tutorial series.

3)Using fonts isn't too hard, either. I reccommend declaring a global integer variable, and then in your AutoExec script in system.vc (that'll make more sense if you read both aen's tutorials and the beginning of VERGEC.TXT which is included in the zip file) put the line

GLOBAL_VAR = LoadFont("blahblah.fnt");

. . . where GLOBAL_VAR is the name of your global variable (duh) and blahblah.fnt is the name of your font file (duh again). After that, mess around with GotoXY() and PrintString() and you'll get the hang of it.

True, it would be nice if people would read the docs before they started ranting and raving here, but once they do start asking questions, it is not our job to mock them. If you don't want to help them, then don't. However, no one should make fun of a person with a question, either. This is supposed to be a HELP board, not a VERBAL ABUSE board.
