I'm not sure if this has been brought up before, but is V3 gonna be windows xp friendly?
I got a copy of xp and, ever since I installed it, I've had problems with old software. And lots of V2 stuff (like maped) doesn't run.
XP hates dos programs...
If V3 won't run on xp, then I see no point to keeping this microsoft-infested piece of crap.

AFAIK, V3 is going to be 100% Windows Native, which means that it should run just fine under Windows XP. Also, if you're still interested in developing V2 games, you might want to check out WinMaped (http://www.verge-net.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Downloads&file=index&req=getit&lid=30), which should run on XP (It's not very stable, tho, so save often...).
I hope this helps.

Windows XP was designed for 32bit, and 64bit applications, that is why old programs have trouble working with XP, but don't worry, you can always get rid of windows... and go to 100% free linux!
